My solution to arrogance...
Posted on 05/12/2004 5:05:05 PM PDT by K1avg
So while FR was down recently (was it just me?), I cruised over to DU, just for kicks. Their Hate Mailbags are particularly interesting (warning - some vulgar and vomit-inducing content).
Since they seem unwilling to ACTUALLY debate issues with conservatives (not surprisingly, of course) why don't we, instead of just sitting here cursing them, invite a few of them over for a nice, friendly debate. Perhaps we could even set up a "Debate" folder and invite rather high-profile DUers or otherwise to debate the issues - fair and balanced. If necessary, we could restrict the debating to one-on-one, just to remove that excuse (I nominate mhking for our first representative, BTW).
Members here are clearly more educated and reasonable, and I'm sure we'd have no problem showing up the libs. So, then, let the debates begin, and may common sense and reason prevail!

Since anyone on earth or in space with Internet access is welcome to post to FR, seems like if they wanted to debate here, they would already be doing so.

I've got a better idea. Instead of allowing vile DUers on our board, go to ConservativeUnderground.com. DUers can register and you can debate them there. I post there sometimes. So does trussell (who, BTW, was "called out" by a DUer who was angry at me) and others.

All Freepers should be welcomed and encouraged to debate.

I guess you haven't taken part in many debates with liberals here on FR, or you'd know that they don't come here to find the truth. They come here to lie, and if they're called on it, they turn nasty and resort to name calling.
They also bring their friends to gang up on individual Freepers.

Welcome to FR. Reason and common sense are foreign languages to your invitees.

I tried participating in an internet political forum (some names from here were there) and found that the left was incapable of friendly debate. Well, this is with the exception of some soccer mom types, who tried to be friendly. But they never missed an opportunity to join the more hateful or open their arms to have heaps of guilt poured on them from various special interest posters while vilifying those who refused responsibility. In fact it was my experience at that site that moved me here permanently.

They are disgusting. Why would we want them to come here and post their vile spew? Bad idea, IMO.

Tried that on many other forums. All the Leftists do is drag you down to their level of stupidity and then beat you with experience.

Many years ago I used to TRY to debate libs on another site, but their content involved little more than posting vile pornographic pictures whenever they were backed into a corner.
Needless to say, I gave up. They're hopelessly bigoted and crude, and dumb as a box(es) of rocks.

I have found that it is pointless to debate liberals, except in one circumstance -- which is if there is someone either listening or participating in the debate who is part of the mushy middle (i.e. a moderate).
In that situation, the debate can be helpful because the moderate can hear both sides, and you have a good chance of winning that person over if you do a good job advocating your position against the liberal.
But in my experience true, committed liberals are faith-based Progressive fundamentalists whose minds cannot be changed by reason. Debating with them can be productive in terms of giving you practice in formulating and honing your arguments. But you will never, ever, ever get them to change their minds because they have the ability to hold two contradictory opinions at the same time (i.e. they believe in individual rights but simultaneously support intrusive, social engineering government policies). Therefore, they are necessarily impervious to reason.

That guy is not worth reading because when those people were savagely murdered, burned to a crisp and hung from the bridge in Falluijah, that moron said they deserved it. Even John Kerry removed the Daily Kos link from his website.

Highly unlikely eventuality from all the evidence.
Besides, the powers that be here have an understandably fierce aversion to anything about, from DU.
