Thanks, TS!

EUPHORIC, some advise:

Learn Spanish and the joy of banging a pinata.
Learn to love circular streets which go nowhere except where you just came from.
No matter what they call 410, it's not a loop. It's a maze which can be only be negotiated successfully after you've lived there 82 years.
When you go to the River Walk in July and August take a wagon full of ice and someone to pull you.
Yes, that little non-descript building you pass on your left downtown is the Alamo. You are required to stop and bow three times in it's direction.
There are areas in the north, south, east and west which flood with rains of over .00002 inches.
All of the snow bird license plates you see on 410 are looking for the Sea World exit. They will run over you to get there!
There are lots more gems of wisdom, but you'll discover them.

Good luck!

(Did you ever consider Houston, Dallas, Galveston, Luckenbach or Quanah?)

Welcome to the great state of Texas, home of the greatest President of these United States, George Walker Bush. Following are some Texas style words and their meanings

Every area has its own terms, slang, and "sayings"....I hope you enjoy these Texas style words and their meanings.

1. AS WELCOME AS A SKUNK AT A LAWN PARTY. Self-explanatory

2. TIGHTER THAN BARK ON A TREE. Not very generous

3. BIG HAT, NO CATTLE. All talk and no action

4. WE'VE HOWDIED BUT WE AIN'T SHOOK YET. We've made a brief acquaintance, but not been formally introduced.

5. HE THINKS THE SUN CAME UP JUST TO HEAR HIM CROW. He has a pretty high opinion of himself.

6. IT'S SO DRY THE TREES ARE BRIBIN' THE DOGS. We really could use a little rain around here.

7. JUST BECAUSE A CHICKEN HAS WINGS DOESN'T MEAN IT CAN FLY. Appearances can be deceptive..

8. THIS AIN'T MY FIRST RODEO. I've been around awhile.

9. HE LOOKS LIKE THE DOG'S BEEN KEEPIN' HIM UNDER THE PORCH. Not the most handsome of men..

10. THEY ATE SUPPER BEFORE THEY SAID GRACE. Living in sin.

11. TIME TO PAINT YOUR BUTT WHITE AND RUN WITH THE ANTELOPE. Stop arguing and do as you're told.

12. AS FULL OF WIND AS A CORN-EATING HORSE. Rather prone to boasting.

13. YOU CAN PUT YOUR BOOTS IN THE OVEN BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM BISCUITS. You can say whatever you want about something, but doesn't change what it is

14. THAT DOG DON'T HUNT IN THESE WOODS That story you told, sounds like a lie to me.

15. WE'RE IN HIGH COTTON. Things are going well

Hi E.... San Antonio is really a great city! It's not nearly as congested as Houston and Dallas that Uncle TC suggests you might want to consider instead of SA! And we live at a much slower pace.. which isn't all bad either. Look for homes in the North side of San Antonio. Property values hold better there and the school districts are better. There's only 1 newspaper. The San Antonio Express-News. It's not consertative in the least... but gives you something to start fires in the fireplace with in the short winter that we have. Here's 3 local TV chanel websites that will get you started looking around. The first one is also associated with the newspaper and I think you'll find it really useful. http://www.mysanantonio.com/ http://www.woai.com/ http://www.clickonsa.com/ And the crowning glory of this city is the way that MOST people conduct themselves. We are home to the San Antonio SPURS and after their win last year, our citizens celebrated in this city's usual manner.... with dignity and good clean fun. No car burnings, no looting,.... just happiness for a team that we're very proud of. We also have the Mission's Baseball team. And some hockey team that I can't remember the name of. Lots of concerts are offered all year, the rodeo is held in Feb. and our San Antonio Fiesta in April is a week long affair of fun and frolic. And if that doesn't satisfy you, you'll only be hours from the gulf coast, or the mountains of West Texas or the bigger cities of Houston and Dallas. It's hard to beat the food here. And we have some of all of it. So welcome to San Antonio !!! Our family hopes you will soon learn to feel at home and love it as we have all of our lives.... (And by the way..... just ask TC how many times a month he comes to SA !! Heeeee heeeeeee heeeeeee) Logan, Beth & Nana

Lived in New Braufels just north of San An for 6 years. LOVED IT! And we're goin' back in about 3 years. Bought 5 acres just north of there between San Marcos and Greene. You have to go to Greene and walk around. Great BBQ joint and a real Texas dance house. Check it out. Great people, easy commute. You'll never leave.

"We are home to the San Antonio SPURS"

I apologize profusely, EUPHORIC.

I forgot the San Antonio Spurs.
If they can draft a good running back next season, they're contenders for the AFC championship.

I didn't mean to mislead you about San Antonio.
There's some good people there.
I know of four, and I've heard tell that there's more.

You just missed the most important day of the year - May 5th - but you've got a whole year to prepare for the next.

Like the Termite says, settle on the north side.
Occasionally you'll find someone on that side who speaks English, and there's a few streets you can navigate when it rains.
'Sides, it's not far from I-10 and civilization in either direction.

I do find myself going to San Antonio pretty often.
Love conquers all.

WELCOME TO TEXAS!

PULL UP A SLICE OF SHADE AND STAY AWHILE!

Euphoric....... we're in the process of re-relocating to Texas - or moving BACK to Texas...... go to www.realtor.com and you will be able to find a house in your price range....... I have no idea where you are now but if you are in either California, or on the East Coast, you are going to be VERY VERY happy with housing prices........ VERY happy..........

NO! Not at all!

I didn't even tell him/her about the cockroach infestation or the swarms of cicadas we have ALL the time instead of every 17 years.
(We call 'em locusts, by the way. Don't expect a Texan to even know what a cidada looks like!)

I didn't tell him/her about the rattlesnakes that make anacondas look like earthworms.
I didn't tell him/her about the pavement melting in the summertime until it sounds like you're driving in molasses.
I didn't tell him/her about the hail storms that supply enough ice in baseball size nuggets to last all summer.

Let's face it.
Ya gotta have cajones the size of grapefruit to live in Texas!
When it's too rough for everybody else, it's just right for Texans!

Rather than live in San Antonio proper - fall all the reasons associated with traffic listed above. You might want to look into areas surrounding SA like Fair Oaks Ranch, Sequin, New Braunsfels (that may be stretching it distance wise) where the schools are still relatively good. You also might want to check out good private schools.

Welcome to Texas!

Euphoria might have trouble finding Greene, I believe it's spelled Gruene and pronounced green. We had trouble finding it when we were looking for Green. Best little dance hall in Texas and a great place to spend the weekend.

Welcome to Texas. After California - what a treat to live around sane people. Remember - no state income tax (so far).

My only complaint is the summer heat and humidity. You have to be tough but what a glorious place - especially compared to California and New York where there is rampant socialism.

I am facing the same prospect of relocation from Ohio to SA, Texas probably in January. Wondering how you like it there and such. Any experiences you could relay would be most helpful.
