He was wounded, has received two surgeries and was only out trying to enjoy some music when he was hit, thrown to the ground, kicked and beaten unconscious. This was the greeting a 19-year-old soldier received from his countrymen while on medical leave from Iraq, according to a report by the Columbus Dispatch.

What the heck is wrong with Toby Keith fans? I know this is easy to say, but I wish to heck I'd been there.

I hope Toby Keith will contact PFC Foster Barton with some words of encouragement. And I agree, what's up with Toby Keith fans?

What the heck is wrong with Toby Keith fans?

The story only said "assailant", not "assailantS", so I think we can assume that this was one person who did the attacking. As such, I don't think it's fair to say, "What's wrong with Toby Keith fans?" I am a fan of Toby Keith, as well is my whole family, my fiancee, and many other people I am close to, and I can say that not a single one of us would have this kind of response to one of our soldiers. More likely, if I saw a soldier at a Toby Keith concert, I might walk up and shake his hand, give him a hug, thank him for his service, wish him God's greatest blessings, and ask where I can mail letters of encouragement to him. As it is, I'm looking forward to doing just that anyway, if possible. And given my understanding of Toby Keith, I don't believe that he would condone the beating of one of our soldiers. If fact, I think if Toby had seen it going on, he might have jumped off the stage and started beating the snot of the soldier's attacker. So, all that said, let's be fair on the matter. Toby Keith fans are, by and large, patriots who love and support our troops. This was one rogue scoundrel who has a real problem with his priorities, who doesn't understand what America is all about, and who probably has plans to go to the next Dixie Chicks concert as well.

I don't think it was a Toby Keith fan.
Here's a link to what seems like a more accurate description.

I screwed up my question. I was curious why bystanders at the concert didn't intervene on behalf of the soldier.

You question reminded me of a famous case in NYC, the Kitty Genovese murder. Group mentality is strange to me. Sometimes people will stand by even though they should do something.
Follow this link if you are curious.
