The Issue at Hand (My First Vanity)

I am sure I am preaching to the choir today, but there are critical issues at hand that have, in my opinion, not been thoroughly discussed in the run-up to this election.

In particular, I speak of an issue that has plagued our country - not coincidentally - since the Vietnam War. During the wars previous to Vietnam, America spoke with one united voice. That unified message was that we are committed to victory, and we will not relent.

Today, the single obstacle that stands in our way in Iraq is the 'insurgency' made up of former Saddam regime members and foreign terrorists. The insurgency is fueled by the hope that they can intimidate America and our allies to abandon our mission of creating a democracy in Iraq and starting a tidal wave of change in this bloody region.

The fuel that feeds their actions is provided largely by the words and actions of some people in our country, broadcast worldwide. More soldiers have died because of the actions of the left in our country. The insurgency sets off more bombs, beheads more people, and recruits more members because Kerry and the media have actively attacked our President for political reasons.

At the time that the US and our allies committed to this mission, people like John Kerry and John Edwards supported by vote and in interviews. It is widely documented at places like www.kerryoniraq.com. When the primaries began, and Howard Dean beat them in fundraising and in polls, the shift took place from unified support, to an active anti-war stance. It spread over time not just about Iraq, but also to Afghanistan - a war almost unanimously supported up to the campaign season.

Now, President Bush is accused of 'dividing' the country. A man who passed an education bill co-sponsored by Ted Kennedy, and tax cut co-sponsored by a democratic Senator, and a Prescription Drug bill championed for a decade by Clinton and Gore, and who lead the nation in a remarkable way after we came under attack. No President has put more effort forward from day one to bring the parties together in Washington.

The damage done by this shift from unity really hit home in the last two days, as I heard more about the recent Bin Laden video. In it, the retoric is frightenly similar to that of the movie Fahrenheit 9-11, and the media campaign to damage President Bush. Bin Laden speaks of Bush's inaction upon hearing a plane had hit the World Trade Center, just as Michael Moore falsely asserts in his film. Bin Laden also parrots the exact same phrases of John Kerry during the campaign. I have heard soundbites from Kerry speeches, and they match the Bin Laden video almost to the word. When people like Moore and Kerry speak, the ramifications are felt across the globe.

Why would the world's most wanted man be able to feel he can advance his position by quoting a Presidential candidate? The answer is simple. John Kerry is doing the terrorist's work here within our own borders. Kerry's attacks are a severe breach of the tradition that the United States speaks with one united voice when we are at war. There is a time for debate, and a time for unity. The debate and disagreement takes place before the first shot is fired. Once the battle begins, the bickering and politics ends. There may not be a better example of why this is such a critical concept than the recent video from the terror leader.

It is Michael Moore and Kerry being quoted by Bin Ladin last week that really brought home the damage they have all done to cause more American tragedy and deaths. It is they who have helped the rise in the 'insurgency' in Iraq. It is they who make our soldiers' jobs more difficult, and finishing our mission a longer task. It is Bush's who continues to show unwavering leadership and is re-shaping the world to reduce the culture of terror around the globe. It is a long fight; one that will take years and decades. The President said that in the first days after 9-11.

Just as John Kerry did after returning home from Vietnam, his ambition and arrogance seem to outweigh the United States interests. His personal desires are apparently all that matter to him. He was fully supportive 18 months ago, but now sees that 'everything' was done wrong. He is a shoe-in for the Monday-morning quarterback hall-of-fame. We can make sure that he does not do any further harm by ensuring that he never steps foot in the White House again. His record and his past behavior are dangerous, and I hope we all do what we can to re-elect President Bush on Tuesday.

I sent this email to a bunch of people...probably all on our side of the aisle. It was a little bit theraputic, and something I thought might get passed over to other undecideds.

I've said it before and I don't mind repeating it: George Bush never divided this country. The Democrats CHOSE to divide themselves by throwing a four-year-long temper tantrum over losing that which they believed was theirs by Divine Right.
