a word to the wise
For all my LJ-loving friends, this is a word of warning, a word to the wise, and a word of utter exhaustion after the wringer I've been put through in the last twenty-four hours.
A couple of weeks ago, following the last presidential debate, I said some rather inflammatory things about George W. Bush in a public post in my LJ, done in a satirical style. We laughed, we ranted, we all said some things. I thought it was a fairly harmless (and rather obvious) attempt at humor in the face of annoyance, and while a couple of people were offended, as is typical behavior from me, I saw something shiny and forgot about it, thinking that the whole thing was over and done and nothing else would come of what I said.
I was wrong.
At 9:45 last night, the Secret Service showed up on my mother's front door to talk to me about what I said about the President, as what I said could apparently be misconstrued as a threat to his life. After about ten minutes of talking to me and my family, they quickly came to the conclusion that I was not a threat to national security (mostly because we are the least threatening people in the entire world) and told me that they would not recommend that any further action be taken with my case. However, I do now have a file with the FBI that includes my photograph, my e-mail address, and the location of my LJ. This will follow me around for the rest of my life, regardless of the fact that the Secret Service knows that I am not a threat.
Obviously, I cannot link to the original LJ post that I made, because I have removed it from my LJ to protect myself and those who commented in that thread from receiving any further visits from the FBI. I apologized for the miscommunication, though I did *not* apologize for voicing my opinion of George W. Bush. I will never apologize for speaking my mind. I will, however, apologize when I say something wrong way and for unintentionally offending/threatening someone, because I am an extremely nonviolent person.
After having consulted an attorney to make sure that speaking about what happened to me will not incur another visit from the Secret Service, I am making this public post to tell you all several things:
1. Once and for all, I want to state for the record, again: I am a nonviolent person. As I told the Sekkrit Service last night, I don't know how to operate a gun. I've never had any military training. I don't even know how to throw a punch. I failed gym. I duck and cover when threatened with violence. I've said before that I could never join the military because I would totally start crying and wuss out and be the worst soldier ever, not because I want to sabotage the government, but because I'm just not cut out for it.
Lives with his mommy, huh?
I read that in DU a couple of weeks ago. This excuse for a person had posted the actual threatening post on another blog and it was still up at that time. The threat was something about ramming an ice pick in the presidents face or something like that. I read something in DU the other day that really has me worried. Someone said something about the President not living for a second term and said watch the 11:oclock news on November 3rd. I don't know if anything has been done about it and I just have a bad feeling.
If the military ever buggs out en masse, these DU
folks will either have to learn to do "military
stuff" or else eventually be forced
to wear burkas and turbans and pray five
times a day whether or not they "choose" to.
it doesn't take a heck of alot (when unchallenged by regular human interaction) to evolve from a discontented twit to a unabomber or bin laden. there is a line of acceptable speech against the president one shouldn't cross--when you cross over it, how would the secret service you AREN'T a threat unless they check you out? especially when terrorists talk in code all the time anyway.
If Kerry gets in and deploys 40,000 more troops like he said he would, this sniveling little weinie would have to grow up fast. I don't think Kerry will listen if he cries and pees all over himself and reminds Kerry that he voted for him. Kerry will have to install the draft because if he gets in, you are going to see a mass exodus out of the military and very few new people enlisting.
I wish we had them and Osama had this turkey.
We do... and he does!!!
bump
The word "grovel" comes to mind......and so does "weiner"...
Too right. Of course, by any normative standard, this person IS violent... thus prompting the Secret Service interview; lucky for him the Secret Service quickly deduced that tendency was mitigated by craven cowardice.
I can only imagine the ride back to the office after THAT interview! They should have gone back and charged him with attempted hypoxia against a federal agent.
You are so right! WE do have those women on our side,
and HE does have Osama bin Laden on his side.
In fact, I am amazed at these "smart" DUer's who are
ecstatic at bin Laden's endorsement of Kerry and threats
against us Bush states. Do they never stop to wonder at
that phenomenon? Do they not understand that bin Laden
LIES?
Oh well, they thought it was cool how Clinton lied and
appeared to get away with it. Or did he? He is looking
really decrepit. Kerry looks decrepit when he misses one
of his botox shots, or if he gets it - same difference,
bin Laden looked mummified on the tape.
I have never gone to the DU site. Would you believe that? LOL
I hope that person with the ice pick gets sent to prison. I don't care if the president is liked or not, people should not want to assassinate the holder of our highest office. I hated Clinton, but would never have killed him - even if I had had the chance.
But anyway, thanks for satisfying my curiosity. :0)
I'm no lawyer, or law enforcement official.
But some volunteer work with a non-profit organization, we've needed to talk with our PD about verbal threats of violence against us.
They were very clear that a verbal threat of violence constitutes the felony of terrorist threat.
Thaat is the "crime" in question here.
