If only Venezuelans had the commitment to democracy of Ukrainians…

London 27.11.04 | Freezing temperatures have not dented the Ukrainians to go out by the thousands and stand up in protest for what they believe was a rigged election. The hypocritical international community has deemed the election as fraudulent and has had no recourse but to take into consideration the allegations made by opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko, who is demanding a re-run of last Sunday’s polls. Demanding, that’s right.

Compare that to Venezuela, which has had two rigged elections in the past 3 months. Contrast the climatic conditions of the two countries and further try and correlate the reactions of the common citizens and their political leaders.

This is a rare occasion where I disagree with the writer - Venezuelans are being too darn hard on themselves because Ukraine is resisting its fraud election. Venezuelans struggled so hard to get any democracy at all that when the fraud snuck up on them unawares, they were exhausted. The Ukrainians knew they'd have the election, the Venezuelans did not know even that much. They just collapsed at the finish line because it was such an uphill struggle at such a monstrous tyrant. I think they did all they could and I applaud them.

I agree. Not only was the election rigged in Caracas, but they had the burden of Jimmy Carter to 'certify' the fraud.
In contrast, the international community is standing up against the Ukrainian fraud.

That was the whole stinking problem. You notice Jimmah wasn't asked to observe the Ukraine election. Somehow, nobody wanted his 'objective' opinion after Venezuela. His Web site shows that business has dried up.

As long as Chavez keeps the oil flowing he is America's best friend in the world.
