Colin Powell speaks his mind.

In an interview with a German newspaper, Colin Powell hinted that maybe the United States was a too much like Rambo when talking about Iraq in the runup to the invasion. Still sounding much like a politician, Powels said, "I suppose we sometimes were too loud, too direct, maybe too blustery,"

I don't have a problem with Colin Powell speaking his mind, and in fact I can see why he might still be a little bent out of shape. Regarding his speech to the UN, he had this so say, "Some of this information was wrong. I didn't know that at the time, I have to live with that." Not only does he have to live with the fact that information that was given to him was not fully substantiated, but what would have happened if we did find WMD in large quantities in Iraq?

Colin Powell has been fairly quiet since leaving public life, but he recently gave an interview to a German magazine. While he doesn't throw anyone directly under the bus, he does admit that maybe the US could have used better words in the months before Op. Iraqi Freedom.

Mr. Powell is smart enough to know what and what not to say.

I like Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice immensely, but maybe for different reasons than most who post here do. I like them because they are a dying breed. What breed you ask? African-Americans who carry themselves with a class and dignity that is beyond reproach. Even when Barbara Boxer grilled Condoleeza, Condoleeza let her intellect do the talking. She didnt go into a "sista-girl" routine; she didnt swirl her neck; she didnt lose her cool. As for Colin Powell, he butted heads with some pretty headstrong individuals in the form of Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz, and anyone who knows just a little about these three personalities know that at times the discussion/debate got a little heated; however, Powell didnt run to the media whether mainstream or African-American and lament that his line of thought was not followed because of the hawks in the administration. He remained cool and measured. Why more African-Americans dont gravitate to the models setforth by Rice and Powell, I'll never know--maybe because they are Republicans, but many African-Americans are missing out on two potent paradigms of American class and dignity by not doing so.

Very good points. I think a lot of us like those two for the very reasons you pointed out. They both have class. As for Collin having to face up to things. He didn't know per the new President's Report of WMD's that a lot of the information he presented in real time to the security council was not accurate. Hopefully the libs will not skew history to the point where people thought he was a part of a conspiracy to get rid of the evil one. He served his nation well for many years.
