East San Jose CPC Closes Its Doors Due to Lack of Funding

Due to a shortage of both funds and volunteers, East San Jose's Community Pregnancy Center, a non-profit clinic that provides free and comprehensive pregnancy information and support for women, will be closing its doors.

Other CPCs in the Silicon Valley remain open, but rely on donations and volunteers to continue and expand their services.

79% of women who receive an abortion say they were not counseled on alternatives. In fact, 84% of post-abortive women believe that they did not receive adequate counseling before having their abortion.* The Community Pregnancy Centers seek to fill this need by providing complete and comprehensive information for women with unexpected pregnancies. The CPCs of Silicon Valley also provide pregnancy support - i.e. baby clothes, childbirth classes, etc. - for women in need.

I am a volunteer counselor-in-training for CPC's STD clinic in Mountain View. At the STD clinic, we provide free testing for the six most common STDs in America, along with STD and relationship counseling.

The need for the Community Pregnancy Center and STD Clinic is greater than can be met with current resources. Here are ways you can help:

* Donate online to the CPCs of Silicon Valley

* Sponsor a walker for the Walk for Life (May 14, 2005)

* Walk in the Walk for Life (May 14, 2005) - I will be there. Let me know you're coming too!

* Volunteer as a pregnancy or STD clinic counselor, a doctor or nurse, receptionist, speaker, fundraiser, practical support, or however you are called. Both men and woman volunteers are welcomed.
