Roger Baldwin, The ACLU, And Un-Americanism
Gribbit's Word ^ | April 12, 2005 | Gribbit

Roger Baldwin, the founder of the American Civil Liberties Union, once said, "I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself... I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal."

This is the man who founded the organization who's alleged purpose is the defense of the bill of rights. What a laugh. But it isn't funny. The DNC is full of these moonbats. And they have the common everyday American believing that the ACLU is working on behalf of their rights. They have a vast section of America believing that they have the best interests of Americans in mind. When in fact, their goal, as stated by their founder, is "abolishing the state itself". And it always starts with religion. Why do they fear religion? What could be so threatening about a belief in a higher power? If you could answer these questions you have one up on the rest of us.

The intellectual types ( or so they see themselves) always like to parade their brains around like trophies. Why? Just to show off their indoctrination. They spend years and thousands of dollars getting these degrees and not learning anything. Then they parade around like some proud peacock because they consider themselves intellectual. Well guess what, consider who taught you. There is an old saying, "Those who can do, those who can't teach."

So these "teachers" mold the minds of the young. They mold them into whatever they wish to mold them into. There is a reason why, most Conservatives come to the light of truth in their 30s. Because the indoctrination is too fresh in a twenty-something's mind. Those who never come to the light are the simple minded drones who actually believe that a Socialist form of government is superior to the Republican form that we enjoy and they exploit. Those who proudly proclaim themselves card carrying members of the ACLU are just the mindless who actually believe that their dues money goes for the betterment of Americans. If that were the case, why are they representing foreign terrorists, in a foreign country, who haven't set foot inside of the United States, trying to get Constitutional protections from the very government that they have sworn to destroy? If you can figure that logic out, you are a better man the I, Gunga Din.

Here's the bottom line folks, they are out to destroy us. And we are letting them. What needs to happen is a restoration of the checks and balances system. The Supreme Court checks the Executive and the Legislative branches, but who checks them? Congress needs to address this problem. Our Americanism is being squeezed out of us by the ACLU and their prostitution of our legal system.

It's time to let Congress know how you feel. Contact your Senators and your Congressman. Let them know that you will hold them accountable for their inaction in this matter. Demand that they put some sort of check on judges who legislate from the bench. Take back our country.

Yep, he actually said it.

The ACLU is a communist organization through and through.

As founder of the American Civil Liberties Union, Roger Nash Baldwin shaped the modern understanding of individual rights and freedom of speech.

In 1917, Baldwin and other social activists established the National Civil Liberties Bureau, forerunner of the ACLU, to support the Bill of Rights.

Led by Baldwin, ACLU lawyers, beginning in the 1920s, used First Amendment cases to reshape constitutional law. They halted censorship of James Joyce’s Ulysses. They challenged Tennessee’s law against teaching evolution in the Scopes “Monkey Trial,” and participated in the trials of the Scottsboro Boys, and Sacco and Vanzetti. They fought for free speech for Ku Klux Klansmen and communists, even after Baldwin - who once supported Soviet communism - changed his thinking and banned sympathizers from the ACLU board.

The article doesn't mention that Baldwin apparently changed his views on communism.

Baldwin apparently changed his views on communism, at least Soviet communism. See my post #4.

On the other hand, 1927 seems way too late to repudiate Soviet Communism:

The archetypal Hive institution was the American Civil Liberties Union. In 1927 its long-time leader, Roger Baldwin, visited the Soviet Union, where he said there was no need for a civil liberties union, since the “working class” already ruled in Russia. Later, two top officials of the American Communist Party would be appointed to the national board of the ACLU. Subservience to Stalin was fully compatible with devotion to American “civil liberties” — as defined by the ACLU.

Lefties like Emma Goldman and Bertrand Russell denounced Soviet Communism pretty early as a betrayal of socialism's ideals.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear. While Roger Baldwin, the founder of the ACLU, had strong Communist ties and even declared it as his ultimate goal, he was never actually a member of the Communist party.

Unfortunately, the same can not be said about those who joined him to form the organization. His first Board of Directors were Elizabeth Gurly Flynn and William Z. Foster, both of whom would later head the Communist Party in America.

Baldwin was very open about his goals, unlike many of today's ACLU leaders. They try to rewrite Baldwin's history as a simple "flirtation" with Communism that only lasted a brief period.

However, Roger grew up in a family of radicals and socialists, and at the ripe age of fifty he said, "I am for socialism, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the State itself as an instrument for violence and compulsion. I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal."

He made his first trip to Russia in 1923. After returning, in his book Liberty Under the Soviets, Roger admitted that their government had instituted "complete censorship of all means of communications and the complete supression of any organized opposition to the dictatorship or its program."

So, did this supposed champion of civil liberties condemn these actions? Not at all!

He said, "Repression in Western democracies are violations of proffessed constitutional liberties and I condemn them as such. Repressions in Soviet Russia are weapons of struggle in a transition period to Socialsim."

In 1934, Baldwin wrote in the Soviet Russia Today,"When that power of the working class is once achieved, as it has been only in the Soviet Union, I am for maintaining it by any means whatever."

The ACLU reflected this attitude. Of the ACLU Board members elected during its first sixty years, almost eighty percent had Communist affiliations. Ninety percent of its cases involved defending Communists.

As a result, it was labeled a "Communist-Front", and came under the investigation of the House Un-American Activities Committee.

On August 20, 1939 Roger was betrayed by his greatest hero, Josef Stalin. Stalin signed a non-aggression pact with Adolf Hitler.

In 1940, the ACLU felt a need to distance itself from the Communist Party, at least in public perception. In what is known as the 1940 Resolution, the ACLU Board declared it "inappropriate for any person to serve on the governing committees of the Union or its Staff, who is a member of any political organization which supports totalitarian dictatorship in any country, or who by his public declarations indicates his support of such a principle."Source

This was very unfortunate for Elizabeth Gurly Flynn, who was a member of the Communist Party at the time of the 1940 Resolution.

It would be nice if this were the end of the story, however by the mid-1960's the ACLU no longer felt the need to seperate itself from Communism. So, in 1967, the board voted to effectively rescind the 1940 Resolution and welcomed communists back into the Union. They later rescinded Flynn's purge, and elevated her to "hero" status.

They came under investigation again and were debated in Congress in 1961.Source

Despite all the the denials to the contrary, the evidence is overwhelming that the ACLU is still working toward the end goal of Communism.

William Kunstler, as a member of the National Advisory Counsel stated, "I am a double agent, working within the system to bring down the system."

Just study it's policies and case history and it is obvious they still seek Communist and socialist goals.

Unfortunatley, many Americans are still fooled, and hold the members of this organization as heros. In 1981, Jimmy Carter awarded Roger Baldwin the Medal of Freedom-the nation's highest civilian honor.Source

Carter had to slip that medal in before Ronald Reagan took the Presidency. Because, Baldwin would never have received it until after his death otherwise. That is if Slick Willy would have had the guts to try to give him one.

Thanks for the info on Baldwin and the heavy early involvement of communists in the ACLU.

I agree with the ACLU sometimes, but too often they work against liberty, not for it.
