Subject: Situation in Communist Cuba Date: April 20, 2005 at 10:18 pm PST
A group of organizations inside Cuba are planning to have large demonstrations for democracy and human rights on May 20th 2005 in Havana, Cuba. Castro's crimes against humanity and democracy have to stop. Please talk to your congressman, newsmedia and others to support and protect this unprecedented demonstration in Cuba. The Assembly to Promote Civil Society in Cuba is a coalition of 365 independent civil society groups within Cuba, which can be truthfully called non-governmental organizations.
All these groups although having solicited official recognition, have been unable to obtain it, because, as it is well known, dissent is not permitted in Cuba -- not even within the Constitution of the Republic. The Assembly is a learning means, to help educate the social self towards the re-establishment of civil society, aimed at establishing a democratic system in Cuba.
Notwithstanding the risks we face under this repressive system, we believe it is necessary to carry out this massive event that constitutes a vital sign in the history of this bloody dictatorship. This is why we are soliciting international support to carry out this important expression of self-determination that represents the dignity and the will of the Cuban people.

A sample of msm coverage of Cuba -
The Boston Globe March 11, 2002:
Boston Globe: Cuba's lessons on caring for children***IF THERE IS one society in North or South America where President Bush's goal to leave no child behind is a reality, it can be found in Cuba, 90 miles off the Florida coast in one of the few remaining communist states in the world. That is the conclusion of 24 Bostonians who just returned from a week in Cuba where we focused on how Cuba raises and nurtures its kids.***

I surely hope so. Castro has decimated Cuba in his 40+ years of tirany and has exported his revolution to many countries in South America. I believe it is time for the US to wake up and see what is happening in Latin America before it is too late.
