Rioting by Muslim youths over the last two weeks that has spread to 300 communities and resulted in the burning of thousands of motor vehicles was hailed by Earth First! as a positive step toward environmental protection.
"Privately owned and operated automobiles are a prime source of the greenhouse gases that are leading to catastrophic global warming," said Joshua Greenpants, spokesman for the environmental activist group Earth First!. "The destruction of these vehicles will reduce these dangerous emissions."
Greenpants said his organization is exploring options for extending the riots. "Most disturbances like this peter out after a short while," said Greenpants. "If there were some way we could make the rioting a more widespread and permanent feature of French nightlife, the impacts would be more significant."
French railway officials have noticed an up tick in ridership since the riots began. "Rising prosperity has enabled many of our former passengers to buy cars," said Pierre Nonplus, press secretary for the Ministry of Railways. "A setback like this, especially since the focus of much of the violence is aimed at automobiles, gives us new hope for a revival of the rail system."
Notably, the Ministry of Railways has been speaking out against the government's rumored peace-feelers to the jihadist community. "We feel it is too early to capitulate," said Nonplus. "Too many people still see the automobile as a viable method of transport. Until this auto dependency is broken, we think it premature to yield to the insurgents."

Ah,....excuse me, but didn't all those cars burning make MORE pollution than the cars would have created in their lifetime?
Also, if you've ever been to Europe, the pollution is worse there than it is in the big bad United States.
Despite all the enviro-whacko moaning and whining, America is a pretty clean and healthy place compared to the rest of the world.
The marketplace works.
I bet burning a car probably released more carcinogens, pollutants, and waste than the general lifetime use of the car would've.
Doesn't the United States have more parks, wildlife preserves, and protected privately owned lands than Europe?
