We demand the extension of the community of equals to include all great apes: human beings, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas and orang-utans.
The community of equals is the moral community within which we accept certain basic moral principles or rights as governing our relations with each other and enforceable at law. Among these principles or rights are the following:
1. The Right to Life The lives of members of the community of equals are to be protected. Members of the community of equals may not be killed except in very strictly defined circumstances, for example, self-defense.
2. The Protection of Individual Liberty Members of the community of equals are not to be arbitrarily deprived of their liberty; if they should be imprisoned without due legal process, they have the right to immediate release. The detention of those who havenot been convicted of any crime, or of those who are not criminally liable, should be allowed only where it can be shown to be for their own good, or necessary to protect the public from a member of the community who wouldclearly be a danger to others if at liberty. In such cases, members of the community of equals must have the right to appeal, either directly or, if they lack the relevant capacity, through an advocate, to a judicial tribunal.
3. The Prohibition of Torture The deliberate infliction of severe pain on a member of the community of equals, either wantonly or for an alleged benefit to others, is regarded as torture, and is wrong.
Self defense? What happened to the right of privacy? Or does the protection extend to apes but not children?
What about marriage between various primates?
Well, at least they're against abortion.
To raise apes to the level of humans ios to reduce humans to the level of apes. It's merely a variation on "A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy" ... and is a prescription for an untermensch in a gas chamber.
What about marriage between various primates?
Be careful what you wish for. |
Raising A to the same level as B is not the same as lowering B to the same level as A.
4. Humans shall not presume to speak for their equals, the chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans, rendering principles 1 through 3 null and void.
I'm sure that old guy who was recently relieved of his nose and testicles by a rampaging chimp would appreciate this.
3. A Great Ape must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law
cockroak = cockroach (you know what I mean)
OK, that's way too abstract: what I mean is if somebody steals a pet cat that's learned to trust people and sells it to a medical research lab to be experimented on, isn't there some crime there beyond mere theft of property and distressing of the cat's owner?
Yes, it is. Particularly if A is incomparable (possessing an immortal soul) to B (which does not).
What about marriage between various primates?>>>
Angican Primates can be married, does that count? :)
Yea and oranges are orange and apples are green, but that doesn't mean they aren't both fruit.
