By the time Churchill gave this speech, pretty much everything was going badly. Holland had fallen, and the Germans were pushing back the French army at every engagement.

This is Part Four of our series on Churchill's speeches. This is not the happiest of moments for the Allies, and you can read it in everything Churchill says, in spite of the brave face he puts on...
