Okay. These things are all that and a six-pack of chimichangas.....

Many of these were built from modifications to a Honda Fusion scooter, but I find the closest model to do this with today would be the Yamaha Morphous:

I found the prices for the ones that they sell at around $21,000. This is a simple currency conversion and doesn't include the shipping -they're only available in Japan......so far.
TOPICS: Business/Economy; Hobbies; Miscellaneous; TV/Movies; Travel; Weird Stuff
KEYWORDS: akira; aprilia; cpi; daelim; derbi; eton; japan; kaneda; kymco; mdm; motorcycle; piaggio; scooter; tgb; vento
I've emailed all of these companies with the friendly suggestion that with Americans paying what we are for a gallon of gas, they'd be missing a great opportunity to make some big bucks if they didn't make a market for these here in the states. I'll post any replies on this thread.
Also, there's a message board which is quite slow, but it's got a lot of other pics on it. The site in the above link has loads of additional information, too.

Is there any functional purpose to the form or is it strictly gay for the sake of being gay? I love Akira and all but I can't stand flashy for the sake of flashy.

Heh! Actually from reading the reviews of the Yamaha Morphous, the winds at 70+MPH can be brutal. Lowering the seat like it is on the Powerbike would minimize that problem.

the Feds & Motorcycle Safety Foundation were looking @ recumbent(sp?)seating in the mid '70's.
Problems were:
reduced forward viz for the rider from lower riding position
reduced viz of the biker to autos (how 'bout dem daylight headlights ?)
Seems they haven't made any progress in 30 years!
To: TheOracleAtLilac; martin_fierro
I'd heard that they lifted the ban.
You hear anything about this, Martin?

to what ban are you referring ?
To: TheOracleAtLilac
There was a ban on making, "Feet Forward," motorcycles in Japan for years that was lifted about four years ago (I think).
If there's a similar ban in America, I haven't heard of it.

for anyone who's ridden on the street, in traffic....having forward visibility limited to the taillights of the car ahead of you is not a good thing.
Any rider opting for the lowered eye point is...suicidal !
To: RandallFlagg
If there's a similar ban in America, I haven't heard of it. I think HD's w/ highway pegs would qualify, so....probably not
To: TheOracleAtLilac
I would guess that it'd depend on the skills of the driver. People in shorter cars surrounded by SUVs (usually) know to slow down and increase the distance of the vehicle ahead if there's a visibility danger. At least I do (But I drive like a Grandmother, anyway -no offense to FR Grandmas).

What I meant to say was the bike looks cooler in the anime than it does when actually built. Just my opinion.

They might want to raise the center frame up a little or else they will be bottoming out on speed bumps..........

As I advance into old age, I'm considering a bike with a lower center of gravity than my BMW R1100 RT, but this does seem to be taking the concept to extreme. Anybody here rode one of these "low boys"?

Remove the body panels for maintenance and you'll discover - GASP! - a Shovelhead . . .

I wonder if it has heated grips?

Joe, after Friday's ride through scenic Central Wisconsin I'm considering 'lectric gloves for good measure.
Drove 'em right back up into the ol' body cavity, if you know what I mean . . .

LOL!!
I'm lovin' this.... :-)
Yesterday I went on a run with the USMVMC to one of their chapters yearly partys. 200 miles up and back. 92 degrees, clear skies,, etc. etc. (Florida, middle of the state)
My face is as red as a freshly boiled lobster. The back of my hands where the fingerless gloves have the big breathing holes are sunburnt to the point of the skin peeling off, bleeding and cracked. My gloves have a mesh back also so I have this spiderweb pattern on any skin that didn't burn off.
My seat was so hot when we were leaving that my butt would have blistered if I didn't sit on a soaking wet towel.
But my 1995 E-glide with 88K miles ran like silk sliding across a new pair of fake boobs.
AND NO heated handgrips needed plus 41mpg. :-)
(Of course when you're riding with 40 other guys there is no hot dogging or throttle pumping.)
To: RandallFlagg
It doesn't look like it has a good turning radius at slow speeds. But it does look like a comfortable cruiser as much as a sportbike.

I just received an email from Neo-Fukuoka:
Thank you for an inquiry.
It is under adjustment towards sale. Reservation is due to be started as soon as the production facility of a factory is ready.
Thank you for your consideration.

DAMN!
That is one scary looking machine.
Back in the day I used to ride a Yamaha 500 single. This was a revival of an old BSA design.
That damnthing looks like it is waiting for Darth Vader.

This bike looks AWESOME. I wonder how it rides.
If it comes out over here, I might just buy it after I had some serious cash.
Sexy bike.
