I hardly ever watch primetime news(?), but after my 5:30 pm showing of the local news, I left it on cBS just to see how they portray the Jefferson story.
It was the 3rd story in (1st was the VA losing personal data followed by the number of hurricanes predicted for 2006). Jefferson's pic came up and the story began. As the story went on, would you believe that the first party named was Republican?? Shieffer says something along the lines that even Republicans are wondering if the FBI over-stepped their bounds. The story went to another reporter who finally states that he is a democrat. The only sound bite provided by a republican was Frist and they only show him stating about maybe the FBI shouldn't have searched the congressman's office. The story ended with the reporter stating that approx 70% of people believe that ALL congressman accept bribes.
So there you have it. When Cunningham went down it was all about the Republican "Culture of Corruption" and the evening news featured all sorts of sound bites from the dems and that the republicans should all be voted out. Yet now the shoe is on the other foot, and now it's portrayed as... ALL congressman take bribes... and that makes it ok.
Thank you cBS....
Frist, just like Lott, needs someone to hand him a genital toupee.
Great post! Seriously, this is probably one of the most important posts of the week, if not month. You are reporting on what is overlooked.
I had to laugh when reading your post because I can just see the major networks burying this story. It's not really funny, as the major net's are working against us, but it's so pathetically typical of them! LOL.
What you just described is typical of cBS reporting.
Liberal bias is everywhere. This Sunday on The Simpsons,
a baseball announcer (voiced by Harry Shearer) calls a home
run: "and it's going, going, and much like America's
credibility on the world stage, it's gone!" Had to put that into the script, huh...
