Hello fellow Freepers. First, I want to apologize to those in my ping list that I didn't find a time to post the pics or let everybody know that I'm back for almost 3 weeks. I could make excuses of being getting caught in the work, etc, but I won't do that.
Anyway, I hope my Picture treat of my trip to Mammoth Cave and other Caves in Kentucky in late August/Early September will be enjoyable as the trip was immensely enjoyable for me. I'll post in a few batches, so more to come on this thread.
Hello Folks from my Ping List ! Sorry for not posting for almost 3 weeks after my return from Kentucky Caves. Anyway, I'm making up for my absense with a bunch of pics. More to come !!!
Next time come by my house and bring me!
Those pictures remind me of the tour my brother and I took of the Left Hand Tunnel at Calsbad Caverns back in 1993.
How did you take them: time exposure, flash, etc? (I know how you pushed down on the button....:))
WOW!
BSF -- come have a look at some fabulous pics.
Thanks for the ping! GREAT PICS! I love to go spelunking when it's the middle of the summer. :)
Fantastic pictures! As a kid, we would visit my dad's family in Kentucky and always stop at Mammoth Cave on the way back home to Georgia. The thing I remember most was the guide telling us not to take any rocks, no matter how small.
I think I might be afraid.
The caves I've been to in South Dakota aren't scary at all! Ambient lights, and sturdy and strong steel stairways.
That sounds okay.
WOW! Fantastic.
Thanks for the post and the ping.
It must have been spectacular to see in real life.
I'll put it on my list of things to see.
I had a digital camera. But the principle as far as I understand is the same when you shoot in the dark or semi-dark. You have to have a long exposure time to capture the image of darkened objects. In Mammoth Cave and many other caves, they don't allow to take tripods so in some cases I got my pics blurry. However, many pics are good and I put the best here.
Hi Dolly !
Nope I didn't see Descent -:))))
BTW, In Mammoth Cave Visitor center they always show movies about Mammoth Cave and other Caves (i.e. Carlsbad). However, I wanted to see natural caves anyway, so it was more inner urge -:))) I took civilized trips with stairs, and lit passageways. Didn't do any spelunking although I'm consider trying it in a future.
On tours with rangers, I learned a lot about cave geology. Hopefully you'll find a time to visit. It's really worth seeing even once in a lifetime !
FYI, Mammoth Cave is the longest known cave in the world with 367 miles of passages discovered so far. Mammoth Cave is not the most beautiful cave--there are a few places where you see stalactites and stalagmites. However, it's really impressive with huge chambers and giant rocks. There are other caves nearby that are really spectacular (Diamond Caverns, Crystal Onyx and recently re-opened Cub Run Cave).
Awesome pictures!! I have been to the caves many times, they are a sight to behold!!
