CREW has posted the emails it sent to the FBI (which are redacted like the FBI claims) and there are interesting tidbits for the timeline. These email refer to the 2005 contacts with the Page from Louisianna whose family has asked ther media to stay away.
First off, the emails between the Page and the House Staffer were sent on August 31, 2005! Yes folks, last year. Supposedly this is from the Page to an unknown Staffer (democrat?) who was the intermediary for passing the emails to the news media. So we know the Congressional staffer held these for a year and never told the FBI or House leadership.
Second, the Fax was made on May 29, 2006. This would imply the Fax to CREW was almost a year later than the tip to the staffer. But CREW also held onto these for 2 months until they provided them to the FBI on July 21. Obviously they did not rush these to the FBI like they claimed.
Third, the date on the lower right of the pages containing the August 30th and 31st email exchanges is 10/17/05 - which means this first section was printed out for some purpose (Faxing?) in October - two months after the exchange. This first email runs from pages 1-4 of the Fax sent to CREW (the cover page is missing, which would contain the contact’s information). Then follows the Foley emails themselves through the remaining pages. These have a date of 9/13/05, meaning these pages were printed off a month prior to the other document. These are not one continuous email! These are two printouts from a month apart combined in a single Fax.
Finally, the email from the Page is going to a House email account, meaning the intermediary is definitely in the House.
More as time permits. But clearly the Folely emails were printed out in September and possibly shopped around. They are not attachments to the other email. The first email shows, upper right, number X of 3 pages. While the original emails show number X of some number between 10-19 (only the “1″ is visible). These number 9 pages and are not part of the first email, as CREW claims. I see why the FBI was suspicious.
Update: I should also note another problem. The only Foley email to the Page with a date visible is the first contact on July 29, 2005 - before Katrina obviously. And about Katrina. Katrina hit land on August 29th. These emails with the Page and the Staffer are on August 30th and 31st? The district this Page is from is the 5th District of LA, which is the upper east half of the LA “boot” top. But my recollection was massive power problems at this time. So was the Page in Louisianna? Why are the dates all blacked out the on the Foley emails? Do they not jive with the first email’s date of 8/31/05?
Update: There is a mention of a “Rodney” at the end of the email from the Page to the Staffer. Could this be referring to Rodney Alexander - the Rep from the Page’s home district? If it wasn’t for the informality I would say yes. But this then raises other quetions. This fits in nicely with the timeline when Alexander is notified - but did an Alexander staff member send the Fax to CREW? I seriously doubt it. The family wanted this kept under wraps. So who got hold of the documents to Fax to CREW? I now think the email could be between the Page and Alexander’s staff - though I still wonder about the timing of all this right on top of Katrina. And I cannot help but remember Brian Ross’ comment about being too busy with Katrina to deal with these emails. I still wonder if he let slip knowing someting in August 2005, not 2006.

Update: The original email from the Page to the Staffer does show signs of editing. The thoughts being expressed are disjoint and incoherent. Take this jump:
What happened was I gave certain people Thank-you cards, you know? I gave Foley one because he was a really nice guy to me and all. Then, he asked me to write my e-mail on the back of his. So I was like, “sure!” because of course I had no suspicions.
[followed by three lines of blank space - then a jump in topic}
…yeah. [Redacted] was just another page he liked. I don’t like [redacted] at all. To me, he was the epitome of a narcissist. For real. He had to be better than anyone at anything and was caught lying about a lot of stuff.A writer who can put “epitome” and “narcissist” in the same sentence can communicate a lot clearer than this. The random white space all show jump in topic. These emails do seem to be messed with.
