I feel duped because I supported the actions we took against the Serbs in 1999. The Clinton Administration and our media never told us that the atrocities committed by the Serbians were a response to centuries of brutalities by Muslims on them or that, in routing the Serbs from Bosnia and Kosovo, we were aiding and abetting Al Qaeda in their reconquest of Europe.
It was wrong for multiple reasons. I was against it then, regardless of Bob Dole's impassioned plea.
With Afghanistan, we had the Taliban protecting those who helped with 9/11. With Iraq, we had a 12+ year old cease-fire treaty they broke on a weekly basis, allowing us to kick their butts, as much as we wanted, whenever we chose. What did we have with Bosnia? Wasn't this the purview of Europe?
Bosnia was using our army for hire. And guess what? We were lied to about most of that whole affair?

PRISTINA, KOSOVO, April 24, 2004 (AP) - Authorities are investigating whether a Jordanian U.N. policeman who killed three U.S. corrections officers in a gunbattle at a Kosovo prison had links to the Palestinian militant group Hamas, a senior NATO official said. As investigators tried to pin down Sgt. Maj. Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali's motive, a clearer picture of the April 17 attack emerged this week.
Witnesses, U.N. officials, medical personnel and NATO officers, in interviews with the Associated
Press, described a scene in which the officers were trapped between a locked gate and Ali's assault
rifle. Eleven officers were wounded before the officers shot and killed Ali, a Palestinian from Jordan. No one is certain what prompted him to open fire, but a survivor said Ali was smiling during his shooting spree, a U.N. source familiar with the investigation said. The attack came three days after U.S. President George W. Bush endorsed a plan by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to withdraw from the Gaza Strip and back the permanence of some Jewish settlements in the West Bank. The plan rules out resettling Palestinian refugees in Israel. A senior NATO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that besides the investigation into any links with Hamas, authorities were examining a trip Ali took to Saudi Arabia only a month before he joined the mission in March to see if it might be connected to the attack. Jordan's government said Ali, 30, was a distinguished member of his homeland's special police unit and had been decorated for helping to ward off an attack on the Israeli Embassy in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The United Nations has refused to discuss details of the investigation. Much is at stake for the U.N. in the outcome of the investigation because the police mission in Kosovo, and others like it, rely on throwing together officers from member countries regardless of political philosophy. "The incident is so grave and appalling that it really calls into question the mission's integrity and unity," said Alex Anderson of the International Crisis Group, a Belgian think tank.
Like Ali, the corrections officers were new to Kosovo. They arrived just 10 days before the attack and
were part of an effort to bring professional corrections expertise into the prisons. Since the U.N. took
control of the province in 1999, the prison has been supervised by police with little specialized
training. The world body moved into Kosovo after a 78-day NATO air war was launched to stop former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's crackdown on independence-minded ethnic Albanians.
The attack began at the end of the officers' first day at work. Sharing small talk, the officers piled
into two vans and a sports utility vehicle and drove to the gate. That is when Ali opened fire. Bullets
pierced the vehicles. Kim Bigley, a prison warden, died in the driver's seat. Gary Weston pushed
another guard out of the line of fire, saving her life. Seconds later, gunshots shattered Weston's skull.
The other officers pulled their pistols and sprang for cover. An Austrian officer in one of the outlying
buildings, Andreas Pumpa, heard the shooting and ran toward it, only to run into Ali, who sprayed his
legs with gunfire. The officers exchanged fire with their attacker, who was armed with an M-16
automatic rifle. Blocked by the gate, and with buildings on either side, the officers were trapped.
"There was nothing to do but stand and fight," a U.N. official said, speaking on condition of
anonymity. "And they stood and fought." Ali mowed down a line of officers scrambling toward a wall.
One of those wounded may be paralyzed. When he had shot all those he could see, Ali paced around
the vans, searching for more victims. Inside the prison, people were confused. Several officers raced
to the exit, but rounds began to pound into the door. With the only way out blocked, they hit the
floor.
Three hundred yards away, in what the officers later called the killing zone, the U.S. citizens realized
no help was on the way. Finally, they got a break: Ali's weapon jammed. As he scrambled to clear it,
the corrections officers counterattacked, managing to get into the guard shack where Ali's four
subordinates cowered. They seized the Jordanians' weapons and attacked Ali with equal firepower: His
body took 16 rounds.
The officers were detained. Authorities suspect Ali's subordinates may have played a role because
more than 400 rounds were fired. The investigation is examining whether they fed him ammunition - so
he could keep shooting. Of the other U.S. citizens killed, Lynn Marie Williams died soon after being
taken to the nearby Serb hospital. Weston was put on life support after the shooting and sent back to the U.S. The U.N. mission announced his death Saturday.

A shooting broke out between UNMIK Police Officers and members of the Jordanian SPU (Special Police Unit) at the Detention Center in Mitrovica North. According to Police, a Jordanian SPU officer opened fire on 3 vehicles containing penal management staff officers at the Detention
Center. [1]
This resulted in a firefight between the SPU officer and the penal officers, which lasted for approximately ten minutes. The incident resulted to the death of two female UNMIK officers, one male SPU and wounding of several officers who were involved in the firefight. [2]
According to media reports, two American women working as UNMIK prison officers were killed and 10 other Americans and an Austrian working as prison officers were wounded. The Jordanian SPU officer was shot and killed by another UNMIK police officer, and a NATO source told the
Associated Press that four Jordanian SPU officers were arrested in connection with the incident. [3]
The case is under investigation by Crime Investigation Unit.

Two Jordanian Officials Get Included in Investigation of Incident in Mitrovica Prison Two Jordanian officials arrived in Kosovo so as to investigate whether four Jordanian members of the UNMIK police had been involved in the shootout in Mitrovica in which two policewomen from the USA and one Jordanian police officer had been killed.
UNMIK spokesman Jeff Bieley stated on Tuesday (20 April) that two senior Jordanian officials had arrived in Pristina on Monday (19 April) and that they had talks with UNMIK chief Harri Holkeri. After that Jordanian officials, jointly with the heads of Jordanian and American police forces, talked with other international officials in charge of investigation of this grave incident that took place on Saturday (17 April) in the District prison in the northern part of Mitrovica.
Agency KosovaLive carries that in Pristina arrived Jordanian Police Commissioner’s Main Deputy, Brigade General Mahmud al Hadid and Jordanian police official in charge of legal affairs, Colonel Halked Saidat.
Speaking about the condition of 11 police officers injured in the Mitrovica shootout, UNMIK spokesman Jeff Bieley said that the two American members of UNMIK police were still in critical condition, while doctors are giving their best to save their lives.
UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan has waived four Jordanians their diplomatic immunity, after which at the request of the prosecutor they were questioned with regard to the Saturday incident. Bieley stressed that Jordanian police officers were detained because they had been at the site when the incident occurred and that it is not known whether they had been involved in the shootout.
Haq: For Now A Single Motive for Jordanian Policeman’s Attack on His American Colleagues Not Known
UN Headquarters in New York Spokesman Farhan Haq declared for RFE that for now a single motive is not known for one Jordanian police officer’s attack on his American colleagues, that occurred in one detention center in the north of Kosovo.
He declined to comment the claims that the attack had been motivated by the American policy in the Near East. Voicing hope that this incident will not have any negative influence on the UN peacekeeping missions worldwide, Haq said that it was normal that the Mitrovica incident had caused some anxiety within the UN Mission in Kosovo but that the UN believe that the international police in Kosovo is capable of continuing its work in Kosovo in a professional way as it was the case earlier.
Investigation Probing Possibility of Attacker’s Link With Hamas
All Pristina dailies on Monday (26 April) published the information according to which police investigative bodies suspect that political motives had caused the grave incident that occurred among the members of the international UNMIK police in the regional prison of northern Mitrovica on 17 April. In this incident four members of UNMIK police were killed and 11 wounded. Of the killed police officers, four were Americans, members of the UNMIK police contingent and one was Jordanian.
According to media claims, the investigative bodies suspect that the killed Jordanian police officer Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali, for whom it is claimed to have started the incident by opening fire from the automatic machinegun on American police officers, had been linked to the terrorist organization Hamas. Also the subject of investigation is this police officer’s trip to Saudi Arabia only one month prior to his joining the mission in Kosovo.
On the other hand, the Jordanian government has declared that the thirty-year old Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali was a prominent member of the Jordanian police special units, who had prevented an attack on the Israeli Embassy in Amman, for which he was decorated.
And while the investigation, that has been personally managed by the international police in Kosovo Commissioner Steffan Feller as announced following the incident, is trying to find the motives for this so far gravest incident among the international mission in Kosovo members, it is now possible, according to media, to reconstruct the incident. It started when Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali, who was a member of security staff in the Mitrovica District prison, opened an uncontrolled fire from the automatic machinegun on the contingent of mainly American police officers who were leaving the prison after finishing their work. The attack was so sudden and unexpected that the attacker managed to kill three, injuring 11 police officers. The return of fire was only possible when, as claimed, the attacker’s firearms got blocked. The clash had been so fierce that following it 400 cartridge cases were found on the crime scene. According to media claims, four other Jordanian police officers have been kept in custody for questioning. They have been suspected of helping the attacker and passing him the ammunition, thus enabling him to keep opening incessant armed fire.
Police as well as UNMIK officials claim that this incident will not reflect on the homogeneity of the international UNMIK police and on the continuation of its mission in Kosovo. Last week the officials of the American and Jordanian police contingents in the UNMIK police composition officially reconciled. This incident’s investigation results, which are eagerly expected, will show whether political or some other motives are at issue. According to an unnamed witness, a member of the international police, Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali was laughing while shooting at his colleagues, which suggests his mental imbalance. Anyhow, this incident has inflicted great moral damage to the international police in Kosovo and at the most unsuitable moment when, following the March riots, police is expected to act powerfully in re-establishing of order and finding those responsible for organizing of violence.
Singh: Police Conduct Intensive Investigation Regarding Incident in Mitrovica Prison Koha ditore carried on Monday (26 April) the statement of the UNMIK spokesman Neeraj Singh in which he stressed that police has been conducting very intensive investigation as regards the grave incident that had taken place on 17 April in the Mitrovica District prison. Singh did not want either to comment or to confirm the writing of press that one direction of the investigation, relating to this incident’s motive, has been focused on the possible connections between the Jordanian police officer Ahmed Mustafa Ibrahim Ali and Hamas.

American Janis Biggs, a member of the United Nations police forces recently injured in Kosovo, declared that she would like to return to her former job. She is one of the 11 wounded police officers in the shootout in Mitrovica detention unit on 17 April, when 3 persons were killed. She stated that she would return to Kosovo if she had the chance. “Those people need help”, she said.

International communities representatives are fully aware of the international character of the Albanian mafia which profit is more then 10 billion dollars. Most of the money is coming from the narcotics market. Drugs are coming to Kosovo mainly trough so-called “Balkan entrance” – from the Middle East countries, Turkey and Iran. From there its transportation is continuing toward western Europe, through Austria, Germany, Italy … to its final costumers.
One of the channels where the drugs are transferred to Kosovo is through Tuzija, Montenegro, where it is brought from Albania cities Tropoj, Drach and Valon. Raw material from Albania are manufactured in laboratories in Prizren and Gnjilane, then it is going to be sent to Luzane, Muhovac and Veliki Trnovac in south-east Serbia, precisely in Tuza and Ulcinj in Montenegro. In the above-mentioned laboratories and in around 20 more around Kosovo drugs are manufactured which are grown in local fields. This year UNMIK police, KPS and KFOR found and destroyed 12 fields planted with cannabis. A two way drug trafficking channel is well known from Gostivar, Kumanovo and Skopje in Macedonia, which leads through General Jankovic and Jazince to Kosovo, and border passing Cafa Prusit and Morina from Albania and opposite way. This road that includes Junik and Djakovica is very important for the weapons black market.
Kosovo is very important stop on the drug routes. Drugs bring enormous profit to the mafia . According to Interpol data, in 1999 just on drug smuggling Albanian mafia earned 38 billion dollars. Two years later, 2001st, the profit was 50 billion dollars, and in 2002 profit was even 70 billion dollars. Just for an example, one-kilogram heroin in Turkey costs 7.500 euro.
On its way to Europe its price is growing. It worth from 10.000 to 20.000 euro, and when it gets closer to the American market its price is even higher – among 25.000 and 35.000 euro per kilogram. Clear profit of the Albanian narco mafia is 50%. Kosovo Albanians take out half billion euro per year just from Germany, while their illegal money are transferred in secret bank systems in darkness where the money for buying weapons are circulating.

Their operation zones are the roads along Kosovo connecting Montenegro and Macedonia, but also around Prizren, because it is near to the Albanian border. Clan Tachi is connected with the mafia from Czech republic, with the Bulgarian mafia and with the mafia from Albania.
Fis Haradinaj controls the region of Pec, Djakovica and Decane. Under his indirect control is also the border with Albania, as the road Pec-Kula-Rozaje. This fis indirectly, through KPS and TMK realizes the control over the border.
One group loyal to Rustem Mustafi, disreputable commandant Remi, operates in the area of municipalities of Gnjilane, Vitina, Podujevo and Kacanik, and their job mainly is smuggling of drugs. They are in close connection with the Haradinaj clan.
With Tachi, Haradinaj and Remi’s clans members, taking in consideration that the last one is in the jail, are cooperating large number of local influential people among whom the business is strictly divided. Fis Babaljija from Djakovica is in charged for the smuggling of gas in Albania. In charged for this business in the area of Pec, Kosovska Mitrovica, Srbica and Pristina is fis Geci. According to unofficial estimations during one week in Kosovo from Montenegro is smuggled 100 tons of gas.
Main activity of the members of clan Agusi is their countrymen’s blackmail for the money especially of those who bought previously usurped Serbian real estates and blackmailing of the potential buyers. Control of the smuggling of drug and oil, also as people trafficking in Pec area is under the control of the clan Keljmendi, while the families Luka and Selimi are doing the same job in the area of Djakovica and Decane. Smuggling of weapon and drug from and into Macedonia is under the control of the clan Suma from Kacanik, which is connected with Remi’s people.

Deutsche Welle Says ANA Is Turning Into Balkan Hamas
Cologne, 15 Aug 03 (Tanjug) - The militant Islamic factor is taking over in the illegal Albanian organization ANA, which is slowly turning into a "Balkan Hamas", the Deutsche Welle radio said on Friday in its comment on the latest developments in Kosovo-Metohija.
The radio said that ANA's rapid radicalization was evident from the fact that ethnic Albanian extremists had shot at children in Gorazdevac on Wednesday. Deutsche Welle said this was an indication that ethnic Albanians were abandoning all previous rules that women and children must not be targets in the fight against their opponents and announcing that nobody would be spared in their future operations.
Local ANA Terrorist Commander In Macedonia Announces War
Skopje, 15 Aug (03 Tanjug) - One of the local leaders of the so-called Albanian national army (ANA) in Macedonia Avdula Jakupi a.k.a. commander Cakala confirmed on Friday that the terrorist attack at the Serbia-Montenegro military base in the village of Dobrosin near Bujanovac had been carried out by members of this paramilitary formation.
Jakupi said that although ANA was not active in crisis areas in Macedonia "there will be war" and that this only depended on the decision of the "headquarters".

"Most did, but some Islamic radicals remained behind. It is estimated that several hundred former fighters stayed behind in Bosnia after the war and became Bosnian citizens by marrying Bosnian women. Others reportedly received citizenship through bribing Bosnian officials. Some Al Qaeda operatives in Bosnia reportedly had connections to members of Bosnia's intelligence service, another legacy of Bosnian wartime cooperation with Islamic militants. The experience of the Bosnia conflict has also had an impact on terrorist groups worldwide. Bin Laden and other Al Qaeda figures mention the Bosnian war as a place where Al Qaeda was active, and as an important militant Islamic cause. Terrorist recruiting videos often include footage of combat in Bosnia.
In addition to fighters, Bosnians also received assistance during and after the war from Islamic charities and humanitarian organizations, many of them from Saudi Arabia. Some of these groups served as fronts for Al Qaeda, which used them for planning attacks in Bosnia and elsewhere. In the view of one observer, Saudi Arabia built mosques at which some extremist foreign and Bosnian clerics continue to preach hatred of the United States and Western countries, which may enhance terrorist recruiting efforts.4 According to U.S. officials, the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo and U.S. military bases in Bosnia were subject to several terrorist threats after September 11, 2001."

Makhtab al-Kidmat/Al-Kifah Refugee Center, the Brooklyn, New York, services organization that is now widely seen as a key precursor to what developed into al-Qaeda, is a case in point. According to his grand jury testimony, convicted al-Qaeda terrorist Wadi al-Hage was called to New York in 1991 to help direct the Al-Kifah Refugee Center. There, al-Hage befriended several of the individuals later convicted of the 1993 World Trade Center and New York City Landmark bombing cases. Al-Hage played a direct role in the 1998 East Africa Embassy Bombings, and at one time served at Osama bin Laden's personal secretary.
The Brooklyn case is equally representative of the fact that, while some charitable front organizations limited their activities to general logistical and financial support activities, others engaged in direct operational support for terrorist attacks.
For example, after his arrest in Indonesia on June 5, 2002, Omar al-Farouq, al-Qaeda's operational point man in Southeast Asia, told his interrogators that al-Qaeda operations in the region were funded through a branch of the Saudi-based al-Haramain Islamic Foundation. According to al-Farouq, "money was laundered through the foundation by donors from the Middle East."4 Similarly, in October 2002, when NATO forces raided the Saudi High Commission for Aid to Bosnia (founded by Prince Selman bin Abd al-Aziz and supported by King Fahd) they found before-and-after photographs of the World Trade Center, U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, and the U.S.S. Cole; maps of government buildings in Washington; materials for forging U.S. State Department badges; files on the use of crop duster aircraft; and anti-Semitic and anti-American material geared toward children. An employee of this charity and another cell member who was in telephone contact with Osama Bin Ladin aide and al-Qa'ida operational commander Abu Zubayda, as well as four other Algerians, are incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay's Camp X-Ray for plotting an attack on the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo. Authorities quickly discovered $41 million were missing from the commission's operating funds."

When we found elements that had remained behind, we launched raids against them. Not all of these people were removed, and the effort is still continuing. Without the peace in Bosnia, there is a real chance that bin Laden would have been able to set up in the Balkans what he did in Afghanistan with far greater danger to the West.

I met with several Albanian leaders in Kosovo who said their goal is an independent Kosovo, their goal is to recreate the Greater Albania that existed briefly during the 30's and 40's, which includes Albania, Kosovo, and part of Macedonia. That, I can tell you, Jim, would unravel Southeastern Europe and dramatically increase the chances of a general war. And that's why the situation is both not the same as Bosnia and why it's so dangerous.
I really need to stress this point so people do not misunderstand it. The Kosovo Albanians have been very badly treated for over a decade by the Serb minority in Kosovo. The building materials are purchased, the concrete frame is built, then it's left a shell of bricks and concrete, they sell the rest of the building materials pocket hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is why you see all those unfinished brick homes....Imagine that?????
