Saddam Closer To Bomb Than Anyone Thought
Stop The ACLU ^ | 3-Nov-06 | John Stephenson

Posted on 11/02/2006 7:49:13 PM PST by Jay777

The New Yorks times confirms that in 2002 Saddam Hussein's "scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away:"

Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990’s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

Had the United States not eliminated this threat, today we would be facing a nuclear armed Iraq and possibly a nuclear armed Iran.

"But, but, but...I thought that Saddam wasn't seeking Nuclear weapons and had completely shut his program down. Talk about dazed and confused."

Does Conundrum also work?

I don't think the are suggesting Sadaam was a year away in 2002. I think they meant he was a year away when Iraq invaded Kuwait.

welcome to FR.

Is the NYT so committed to destroying Bush that the didn`t understand that this story vindicates the war? Let`s see what their partners in crime do with it tomorrow. Wonder what Sen Lamont will have to say?

This is a good time to reflect on Hazel O'Leary's declassification program of of nuke and bio-warfare documents under Clinton. I recall Madeline Albright saying something about it being necessary to constrain the hyper-power US by bringing weapons programs of other countries up to speed.

I don't know what that is supposed to mean. Review my posting history if you want to suggest something about my ideology. I was making a simple observation about this article. Anyone who reads the entire article can see that my observation is accurate. My statement had nothing to do with what I think.

Hmmm... wonder what Red Ned Lamont will say about this tomorrow? ;-D

Please Freepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent Connecticut ping list.
