Army Commander Let His Own Men Face the Death Penalty To Hide His Own Reprimand
Euphoric Reality ^ | 01/21/07 | Kit Jarrell

Explosive new info in the Iron Triangle Case in the NYT this morning showing that not only did the Army already handle the four Iraqi deaths that the Rangers are charged with, they reprimanded the commander for them and ended his career. The commander, Col. Michael Steele, knowing he had already been punished for the incident, still allowed his men to be charged with murder and imprisoned.

No charges have been filed against Colonel Steele in the Army’s continuing investigation. But two Defense Department officials said last week that Colonel Steele was formally reprimanded in the summer by Lt. Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli, the former commander in Iraq, for not reporting the deaths and other details of the raid. The action was not made public.

The Army had already reprimanded the commander for acting on bad intel about the region being a terrorist training camp. They were well aware that the Rangers had done exactly what they were told: Go into a hostile area and take out the bad guys. The problem was, Steele was wrong, and the area was not a terrorist training camp.

This blows the entire Iron Triangle case wide open, and makes me even sicker to know that SPC William Hunsaker is serving 18 years for this piece of dogcrap posing as a leader of men. My 9-year-old son has more integrity and sense of responsibility than this Col. Steele.

>>Steele told his men to “kill all military-age males,” and had the Rangers complied to the letter, there would be a lot more dead than there were.<<

snip

>>Only excess caution by Colonel Steele’s troops spared the Iraqi civilians from being shot, General Maffey wrote in his report. […]<<

snip

>>Steele is a maggot, a pathetic excuse for a man who is so concerned with his own career and his own image that he was pleading the fifth, retaining O.J Simpson attorneys, and negotiating for immunity while his own men, one of whom he had worked very closely with, were facing the death penalty for his screwup. Meanwhile, the Army, knowing the state of affairs, helped him do it.<<

Makes you wonder...bad intel, said it was a terrorist training camp? Where'd he get the info? Did he get taken in by Iraqis looking to set up U.S. troops for a "massacre?"

SSG Girouard went into the first house and found a group of kids in there by themselves. He told them in Arabic to stay in the house and started yelling over the radio, "What the hell is going on here? What the hell? Why are there kids in here?"

If it weren't for the consummate professionalism of Girouard and his team, they'd have had a lot more people dead. Freaking amazing.

"Did he get taken in by Iraqis looking to set up U.S. troops for a "massacre?" "

Seems obvious that he did. By itself thats not such a bad thing other then it jeopardizes lives and the political impact of the US killing a bunch of children. For certain posters on FR it must be an eye opener that the terrorists will sacrifice their children for the cause.

Whats worse is that he sacrificed his troops for his own career and ego.

Ok guys and gals, I'm getting a little concerned that we are going off half cocked with thinking that "The New York Times" has all the facts straight and is reporting it squarely.

Are we letting the hammer go too quick, just because we have some bad on the NCIS?

I'm concerned.

The NCIS didn't do this investigation. The CID did.

And I've just spoken with the family, who says the attorney has confirmed the details of this.

It IS really this bad.

Steele is a maggot, but this is the kind of stuff that happens when you put JAG and a bunch of scumbag Democrat lawyers in charge of a war. The stench goes right to the top. Meanwhile, I hope the troops are continuing to brush up on their "thirteen rules of engagement". They don't want to end up in jail.
