This is worth knowing about. There haven't been a lot of reports, at least not that I know of.

Go to the link and scroll down. There's quite a few listed. Not as many as the wet food.

We caution you against accepting this as the final word as these are self-reported numbers from parents who have been reading about other sick or dying pets. I’m sure my college stats teacher is rolling in his ivory tower.

Given the caveats...

...we'll still publish hearsay and rumor for its sheer shock value.

I too use Purina for my cats and just saw it on both lists; cats & dogs. These numbers are small, teeny tiny as a matter of fact. But I'm wondering if there are more and it's just not being reported. I simply don't know.

Purina had its own problems around 10 years ago when fertilizer got inadvertantly mixed in with the dog food at a plant that bagged both.

Cripes! I just opened a bag of Science Diet cat food. It was to be our last, as I plan to switch the girls to more healthful foods. I guess I'll toss it to be on safe. They've eaten it all their lives, along with canned food (usually 9-Lives).

All this trouble has prompted me to read up on pet food, and it has opened my eyes to the content of some of these foods. I've decided to move away from dry food altogether, and probably transition to home-made kitty food. I had hoped to use up what's here and make it a gradual change for them. I guess it's going to be more drastic now.

I'll double check all the labels on my remaining canned food and shop very carefully going forward. This is very scary.

One of my cats has always been prone to throwing up. I'm realizing now that she's probably not been tolerating the grains or something else in the dry food. Poor baby. I just took it to be a sensitive stomach or eating too fast. They're also both a bit heavier than I'd like to see, and basically layabouts. I never considered that their diet may be part of the reason until now.

This is so disturbing. Our fur babies trust us to care for them. I feel betrayed by manufacturers who have not been diligent in assuring optimal nutritional content, or even reasonable quality control.

Yikes... just how reliable is this? Reports to a blog? I hate to even ping this... but just everyone take it with a grain of salt.

Our dogs have been eating Nutro Lamb and Rice... they've been fine. Cats are eating dry Nutro, also fine.

Ping!

Well I feed my outdoor cat special kitty and it hasnt had a problem yet.My cat constantly has her head in the bag of Special Kitty and hasn't shown any signs of any problems. Except, she has been getting bloated around the middle. Probably because she's pregnant.

My dog hasn't had a problem with his Ol' Roy. Both are fine.

been feeding my critters on a diet of ol' doggie folks formulas from Pedigree and Purina, with the occassional bag of Ol' Roy thrown in, and they seem to do well...they like the Purina best, it seems...one of my dogs is getting geriatric, and started losing weight, and I began to feed her some of that pouch food as a supplement...no sign of sickness, so maybe I was lucky...did use some Kroger and Ol' Roy product along with choosing pedigree, but she's a Golden, and one pouch of that a day may have been below toxicity for a dog her size anyway...but if this keeps up, I'm going to start making my own dog ration.
