Costco Recalls Dirty Underwear Punching Bag
The Consumerist ^ | May 24, 2007

Costco is not cool with underpants-filled punching bags. From their website (emphasis ours):

We are issuing this voluntary recall notice for the TKO Sports Heavy Punching Bag with Speed Bag Combination, manufactured by TKO Sports, of Houston, TX. We have learned that the fill material in the heavy punching bag does not meet our high quality standards.

I thought this was bad idea when I thought you had to fill the punching bag with your own dirty underwear. Then I realized it came prefilled with dirty women's uderwear.

This raises several questions.... Where did they get tons of dirty women's underwear? How on earth did they decide to use it like this? and finally...

Wouldn't it be worth a lot more on EBay?

Are we sure the consumer didn’t do this as a prank, to get publicity, or to sue about ?

Punching bag filled with underwear

Joe Heckel of Cincinnati, Ohio peeked inside a TKO brand heavy punching bag he had purchased and was surprised to find it stuffed with underwear, some of it “used.” From WLWT Cincinnati:

“(There were) bras, thongs and bathing suits. We could not believe there were clothes inside instead of sand,” he said.

Heckel said the smell was “bad, real bad...”

Heckel said Thursday that the representative (from TKO) told him that the underwear in the bag was a “quality problem” that they were dealing with, and that the people who had made the decision to put underwear in the bags had been fired.

Is the quality problem related to lack of sand, or that the clothes should have been washed first?

Dirty women's underwear or women's dirty underwear?

Probably a bit of both, I would wager.
