GOP Immigration Backlash

If you listen to callers on talk radio shows across the nation, you have a good feel for the negative response of the conservative base to being force fed this immigration amnesty bill. Many Americans feel that GOP members in Washington, from the President down to the lowliest freshman, have lost touch with their constituents and do not care about their opinion. There is one way to get their attention, however, and that is and always has been money.

I have personally told RNC fundraisers why my check book is closed, sent back their mail solicitations with notes on why my check book is closed, and have sent emails directly to the chairman telling him why my check book is closed. Apparently many other registered Republicans have taken similar action and it is being noticed:

The President is on my tv screen at this very moment defending the immigration bill to the hilt.

Based on his latest comments on global warming, looks like we ended up electing Gore - sheesh!

I am almost sick when I think about how I supported and campaigned for him only to see him turn his back on the very conservative base who put him in office. I wonder how bad he is really hurting the GOP and if they even realize it yet.

I was always impressed that he did not cave to the tree hugging pressure from the left on this issue; until now. I can’t put into words the number of ways President Bush has failed since the mid-term election. It is sad, really; and it will hurt the GOP as a whole.

I taped a dime to my form and sent it back. Perhaps it was 10 cents too much.

The RNC will have to get more from somewhere now. They are being pushed “into the shadows.” Look for bigger contributions from the “fat cats” to make up for the consequences of betraying the conservative base.

At least Algore is honest about his position on GW.

Frankly Algore would have been less corrupt than this shyster as well.

I think it will take Fred Thompson to get people back on board and he will have to convince people he is for real.

I don’t know, he did have the Chinese funding thing. I know it was no Jack Abramoff but it still did not look too good

I totally agree.

But take heart in the truth that "fat cat" K Street business lobbyists, corporations like Tyson and Hormel and Cargill and ADM and McDonalds, and all the PAC money they can collectively muster, do give them even one single right to vote in an election.

Things are getting real bad when there's any defense of Kerry to be given but had he won the GOP in the Senate would most likely be opposing any amnesty schemes.

Not if any kind of amnesty passes before the election. I seriously doubt people will forget that easily when voting time comes that the GOP could have stopped it but didn't.

You are absolutely right but the pitiful list of candidates going into next year’s orimary does not give us much hope.

I see your point but I don’t have enough faith in the people to hold their ground. When the elections draw near they will be voting againist the Democrats and that is what the GOP is banking on.

I hope this amnesty thing dies on the vine and a direct and effective, notice I did not use the word comprehensive, plan is put forth.
