Last week Judge Reggie Walton sentenced Scooter Libby to 30 months in the federal penitentiary for allegedly lying about a crime that never occurred and didn't exist. While everything about the case qualifies as script material for The Twilight Zone, acknowledging plot contributions from both Kafka and Heller, the newer developments owe more to One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

What is newly very apparent is the personal animus that Judge Walton has displayed towards those who have sprung to Libby's defense.

Judge Walton's order allowing the 12 to file their brief was short, formulaic, curt. It contained only three sentences. What was unusual, and what perked up the legal community and law commentators watching the case was this striking footnote added to the order by Judge Walton and directed at Dershowitz, Bork and the others.

Dershowitz??? Such an enigma some times.
Yes, but when Dershowitz and Bork are on the same side of an issue and royally piss off a sitting federal judge, you can bet there is more to the story.
Hideous liberal jerk of an excuse for a judge.
May he fall on his own judgmental duplicities as on a sword.
Actually,
I think the jerk of a judge tried to moon them and then crap in their laps in open court and then defend himself as being the lofty enlightened moral superior.
What an idiot.
I am beginning to have doubts that Scooter Libby will ever serve any time. This whole case has been absurd.
I am beginning to wonder what “future consideration” has been offered Judge Walton.
I read the reply, and I think Walton owes them an apology.
It really was a stinging slap to the face wasn’t it?
The footnote on the order goes a long way to explaining the bench rulings during the trial. It’s the only thing that does.
I expect that the Court of Appeals is going to hammer him.
It sounds like the judge is being set up for a big smack down by the appellate court!
He owes them an apology.
He owes Libby and the Nation withdrawal from the case and throwing the case out of court.
Hideous.
Sadly, such is just beginning.
The evil globalists do not care what they do as long as it feathers their nests, furthers their goals and trashes decent people—especially Christians.
If Libby had memory confusion, then he should walk. Given the time and the many conversations someone in his position would have, I can see getting the sequence of long-forgotten conversations mixed up.
However, if Libby was lying in a federal investigation, then he should be punished. It’s that simple.
I think we just found out how messed up Judge Reggie is. I think his footnote reveals what really underlay his sentence and the motivation for many of his rulings in this case.
I suspect Dershowitz and Libby interests intersect at Israel, and not in any conspiritorial sense either.
When someone calls others “luminaries” that is like saying “IDIOTS”. Reggie Walton thinks all these people are idiots and no-nothings and BUTTINSKIS.....hmmmmm....has Reggie been paid off by someone?
As was indicated by the jury foreman, this was for Iraq.
And they all know it, including Russert and his other dem hack posers.
Eugene Volokh, dean of The Volokh Conspiracy, observes that Judge Walton’s footnote makes no sense.
