Bob Dole says his support is likely to be "picked up" by Fred Thompson

Bob Dole has decided that John McCain has lost the "buzz", and has signaled he is likely to switch his support to Fred Thompson in September. Take a look at what Dole is quoted as saying in a Bloomberg article:

Bob Dole says his preferred presidential candidate, Arizona Senator John McCain, is fading and that his support is likely to be ``picked up'' by Fred Thompson, who is expected to announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination in September.

``My heart has always been with my good friend John McCain,'' said Dole, former Senate majority leader and Republican presidential nominee. ``But it's just not happening, the buzz is gone,'' he said in an interview with Bloomberg Television's ``Political Capital with Al Hunt,'' scheduled to air today.

Thompson, an actor and former Tennessee senator, is somebody people would like to ``have around the living room,'' and that will help him pick up McCain's supporters, Dole said........

On Thompson, Dole said Americans might be ready for an ``easy-going'' candidate.

While critics say Thompson is ``too easy-going, doesn't have fire in the belly,'' the ``Law and Order'' actor has ``kind of a nice, laid back, easy-going approach,'' Dole said. ``I'm not so certain people want to hear somebody scream and shout.''

Dole took issue with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who said earlier this week that the Republican presidential candidates were ``a bunch of pygmies.''

``I totally disagree with Newt Gingrich,'' Dole said. ``I don't know how he has set himself up as the spokesman for the world, but to say we have got a bunch of pygmies, of course unless he gets in, then there is one that is not a pygmy.''

Once upon a time I had a lot of respect for Bob Dole, but he turned out to be just another little fart, on the hot skillet of life. POOF!

I’m a little disappointed he didn’t back Duncan Hunter. But then, maybe Duncan Hunter needs an endorsement from a president who knows how to WIN races.

Cat predicts deaths of nursing home residents; curls up with patients who have hours to live

By Ray Henry, Associated Press Writer | July 26, 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —Dogs can sometimes predict an epileptic owner’s seizure or sniff at an owner’s mole, signaling a possible cancer.

Now, it appears a cat can predict the deaths of patients in a nursing home.

When Oscar curls up on a patient’s bed and stays there, the staff knows it’s time to call the family. It usually means the patient has less than four hours to live.

The feline’s accuracy has been observed in 25 cases at Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

“He doesn’t make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die,” Dr. David Dosa said in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday’s issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

I would advise anyone to do some EXTRA research on anyone Bob Dole endorses.

I like Bob Dole as a person, but he is a liberal Republican in soooooo many ways.

“Man,that guy is full of hate and Ducan wants his help????”

Not sure about the last part. I try not to connect men like Duncan to every supporter he has.

Hunter is more likely to get Ron Paul’s endorsement. ;-)

In all fairness, I expect that Thompson never expected W to sign it, much less have the SCOTUS uphold it.

That's one of the lamest things I've ever read. Thompson never expected Bush to sign it or the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold it, so he voted for it?

Big mistake by both Thompson and Bush, who never expected the SCOTUS to uphold it either.

ALL politicians sometimes vote for things they rather wouldn't, I'm sure you understand that.

Bob Dole did the same shtick on Newt Gingrich during 1995 Budget standoff with Clinton when Clinton was a day or two from giving up to House “revolutionaries” after shutdown of government... Dole wanted to run for President and Newt would be a candidate after a budget victory, so he - with help from “his good friend” John McCain - pulled the rug under Gingrich and made a deal with Clinton, showing to everyone in the media that he was the “grownup” in Congress and deserved to run for President. Gingrich stepped out of Bob Dole’s way deciding not to run, because of the respect to the GOP’s unwritten (and stupid) “it’s his turn” tradition and the consensus that Bob Dole was “the one who could win”...

We may be on a path of being “Bob Doled” again, trying to choose a “he can win” candidate which has not won for either party since Ike more than 50 years ago. Dole’s endorsement of McCain and Fred, and dissing of Newt based on “how he has set himself up as the spokesman for the world” (??) tells me a lot of what we, at least, should not do in choosing a candidate...
