On Thursday night’s edition of The Ed Show on MSNBC, "Ed Schultz threw down a threat-down on hawkish, jingoistic country crooners like Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood ," wrote Adam Gold of Nashville Scene, "or as he called 'em, ‘fun-lovin', American rednecks in Nashville, Tennessee."Schultz "put the Music Row machine on notice — jestingly expressing his hankering to hear a patriotic anthem lauding President Obama and the Navy Seals for toe-tagging Osama bin Laden." You can tell Schultz was mocking patriotic country singers because he didn’t ask Steve Earle or the Dixie Chicks for their help.

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is urging the nation’s schools and colleges to do more to prevent sexual violence, saying campus sex crimes often go unreported because victims fear that universities will not discipline offenders. Mr. Biden travels to the University of New Hampshire on Monday to discuss new Education Department instructions, issued on Monday, to public school districts, colleges and universities about their responsibilities under civil rights laws to prevent sexual violence. “Sexual violence can happen to anyone, and it happens at the best colleges,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “Very few report the crime to law...

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., unveiled today his five-year path to a balanced budget, leaving several federal agencies behind. Among the items on the cutting room floor are the Departments of Education, Energy, Commerce and Housing and Urban Development. “There’s a lot of things in here that everybody could agree to, Republicans and Democrats, but nobody’s leading on the president’s side and on our side we felt we needed to put this forward to get the debate started, at the very least,” the freshman Senator explained at a Capitol Hill press conference this afternoon. Labour leader Ed Miliband today declared 'I am a socialist' and revealed he was tempted to join the violent student protests but was 'doing something else'. Mr Miliband said that although he did not condone violence, the demonstrations were fuelled by 'justified' anger about tuition fee rises. And he indicated that he was open in future to talking to those protesting on the streets, with marches and other protests set to continue. And, speaking to the Radio 5, he took the bold step for a modern Labour leader of embracing the socialist leanings of the party's pre-Tony Blair era.

At the center of the controversy is a desire by educators and special interest groups to begin teaching a pro-gay sex education curriculum to children as young as five years old. A revamped sex education curriculum that will see Ontario students learn about masturbation in Grade 6 and oral sex at age 12 this fall is a responsible way to teach children about a touchy subject, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Tuesday. Conservatives groups who are mounting a campaign to get rid of the revised program, which will see lessons taught as early as Grade 1, are accusing the government of corrupting young minds with sexually explicit material. Kids will learn about such topics anyway, whether it's from their friends or the Internet, McGuinty countered. By making it part of the curriculum,...

Like a column collapsing under the burden of a heavy roof, erectile dysfunction is a classical mechanical engineering problem, says a US urologist. Using mathematical models of penis geometry and hydrostatic pressure, doctors can predict when penises will fail – and in which vagina – he says. The most widely investigated parameter of penile rigidity is intracavernosal pressure (ICP) – the fluid pressure achieved by blood build up in the two expandable "caverns" of the penis. For a healthy man, the erect ICP is between 60 and 90 millimetres of mercury (mmHg), but can drop to just 30 mmHg, in...

Edward Klein’s book, The Truth About Hillary, has made him quite the popular person. On second thought, maybe it hasn’t. Since its release in mid-June, Klein’s book has reached the number two spot on the New York Times bestsellers list and has attracted much criticism as well as praise. But you’d be hard-pressed to find him talking about the book on television as he’s been shunned by most of the networks. There’s no doubt his book is critical of the former First Lady. Klein is convinced that Hillary has been trying to re-position herself and re-brand herself as a centrist...

Apparently, the ads for impotence pill Levitra failed to perform. GlaxoSmithKline and Schering-Plough, which market the erectile-dsyfunction drug in the U.S., are changing their advertising yet again. The firms have hired ad agency BBDO, owned by Omnicom Group, to help sell the drug. The move comes just six months after they switched to Saatchi & Saatchi, a division of Publicis Groupe, from WPP Group's Quantum. After landing the business, Saatchi has yet to break any new spots for the virility drug. The timing also looks bad with the agency's New York office, still reeling from one of the biggest mass...

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- While government officials launch a new campaign to stop Medicaid coverage for sex offenders' impotence drugs, Connecticut authorities have quietly been fighting a lawsuit by an inmate being denied similar medications. Eugene Mercer, 41, who is serving a 45-year sentence for felony murder, alleges that the state is violating his right to reasonable accommodations under the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. He claims his impotence is caused by a neurological disorder and AIDS. Mercer, incarcerated at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, is seeking access to a testosterone cream and medication to treat erectile dysfunction. State officials...

WASHINGTON -- The federal government will spend nearly $2 billion in the next decade on male impotence drugs under its Medicare program, according to a new cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office that is fueling some lawmakers' efforts to end that spending.          Rep. Steve King, Iowa Republican, is sponsoring a bill to prohibit most erectile dysfunction drug sales under Medicare, the government's insurance program for the elderly and disabled, and released the cost figures yesterday as part of his effort. "It's a number that's just shocking," Mr. King said. "When you're looking at it starting out at $90 million a...

The so-called Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) is a bad idea whose time should never come up -- at least for the United States and for those who believe in economic liberty and national security. That was the view of President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s and would remain his view today if he were with us to express it. The actual title of the treaty is “the United Nation’s Convention on the Law of the Sea.” As its name suggests, it gives to the United Nations, through its subordinate organizations established in the treaty, unprecedented economic powers and...

Jim Moran said he is fed up with the barrage of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction ads on prime-time TV. The Virginia Democrat Thursday introduced legislation to limit the ads on television and radio to late-night hours. Moran said, "You can hardly watch prime-time television or a major sporting event with your family without ads warning of the dangers of a 'four-hour experience' airing every 10 minutes." He said there is just too much sexual innuendo. He...
