I agree with you. This is a debate where good conservatives will be asking the questions instead of liberal reporters. I, for one, would like to see how all the candidates handle themselves, especially Thompson, who is being billed by so many as the anti-rudy. Even if the other three refused to attend, Fred Thompson could make considerable inroads into the social conservative vote by his being there. For that matter, so could Mitt Romney, who claims he is also a social conservative. This is a time to put up or shut up.

It doesn’t matter if the MSM shortchanges the coverage of this debate. This is all about playing to the base, not the liberal media.

The first primary is a few months away. The only edge that I saw he ever had was media buzz, name recognition and few votes he made in the Senate.

Such edges tend to dull very quickly when there isn’t the substance to keep them sharp. Keep your eyes and ears open and be sure the star you hitch you wagon to isn’t a falling star.

Remember, it is never about one man, but the man that we are sure will further our beliefs, our ideology. We get to elect our nominee and we as conservatives are cheated when we make this about polls, media hype and popularity.

We can couch our decisions under guise of realistic chances, poll numbers, pragmatism (no pun intended), but in the end it should only be a matter of choosing who is best for our country. The decision we make will be very important to the future of this nation and I take it very seriously. If you make a different decision and are fully aware of the import; I trust your decision.

There is no other way . It’s Thompson or bust . I like Hunter, but Hunter can’t do it .
The others are too Liberal or would get shredded in the general election .
Thompson will also pull people who don’t normally vote , which like it or not, will be important to winning the general .

The other candidates (in both parties) could only dream about pulling the general populace vote the way Fred will .

No, it's a question for Joseph Farah and the "values voters." Farah stated that candidates are afraid of the questions the values voters will bring up. He (and the value voters) must know what questions they are. I could take a guess on some:

Support or oppose abortion? Support 2nd Amendment? Support gay marriage?

The problem with Farah's statement is that the candidates in question have already answered those questions. So what else is there to ask?

Ah, but it's not so simple. Everyone - democrats included - oppose abortion. They just want to keep it legal and easily accessed. Everyone - democrats included - support the 2nd amendment...of course, rightly understood, you see - not interpreted such that we peasants can arm ourselves. Few savvy politicians support gay marriages until you rename them civil unions, then the number seems to magically grow.

...and so on.

I'm through with supporting the lesser of two evils.

It just doesn't make any difference in the long run.

If we can't see that after two terms of George W. Bush, then we'll never be able to see it.

While I sympathize with his frustrations, he is not accurate. The lesser of two evil will appoint Supreme Court Justices who will not legislate their liberal agenda from the bench.
Yeah, I've been disappointed in "W" these last two years but he did make two SCOTUS appointments that will be around for a couple of decades.
I, and 19 million others, voted for Ross Perot in '92 because we were angry and frustrated with George H.W. Bush. And it did make a difference. It gave us 8 years of the sorry, low-life, scum bag Clintons.

Then, if what you say is true, Farah has posited the impossible. And I can’t blame Fred, or anyone else, for avoiding values voters’ ambiguous queries-—they would seem to change with each and every questioner.

I think border security and Hunter’s ideas on China and manufacturing jobs will resonate with American’s across the board far better than a few seasons on Law and Order.

The Democrats think health care is going to be a big issue to get the vote out, they are wrong. When a worker who has lost his job in the rust belt hears a Hunter message, there’s a good chance that’s a vote for Hunter.

When those living in cities and towns being overrun by illegals begin to understand he has twice the credibility on the issue as any of the rest, another vote for Hunter.

Who do we want making the case before the American people that victory is the only option in Iraq? Fred, Rudy, Hitlery or Obama.....or do we want a man that knows the military very well, served himself, putting his life on the line, whose son has served two tours in that very war?

So, don’t sell Hunter short, there is no doubt he is the best and the American voters just might figure that out in the interim.

From Lifesite;http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/aug/07083003.html

“Questions will be fielded to participating candidates from among 40 pro-family leaders including such notables as Phyllis Schlafly, President of Eagle Forum, Don Wildmon, Chairman of the American Family Association, Paul Weyrich, President of the Free Congress Foundation, Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel, Bobby Schindler of Terri’s Fight, Janet Folger, President of Faith2Action, Rick Scarborough, President of Vision America, Judge Roy Moore and many others”

I sincerely doubt that these folks are going to ask such simplistic questions. These are intelligent conservatives, not brain dead liberal media types.

You’re absolutely right Wildcatclan...Hunter would run away with the general election. He’s the only Republican who has the capacity to rebuild the Reagan coalition. The problem is that the Rockafeller wing of the Reagan coalition has gone beyond the pale with their globalism, and they are no longer willing to have Reaganites dictating policy as it would interfere with their endgame. Hence the problem.

In all honesty, I think it's safe to say that liberalism has advanced far more in the past 8 years than it ever did with Clinton in the White House and Newt leading the fight in Congress. Too bad the Republicans didn't actually follow through on the Contract with America.

I’ll tell you exactly what I am saying.

Fred Thompson’s position on the TWO Biggest Moral Questions of our day (Abortion and Gay Marriage) is the SAME position held by Democratic Presidential Nominee Stephen Douglas.

Fred is opposed to a Federal Constitutional Amendment to Define the Personhood of the Unborn. Period.

His position is that it is a States issue.

This is not just flawed thinking. It is a direct Pro-Abortion Lie.

This is why. Clearly and without misunderstanding.

First: A Federal Constitutional Amendment IS Federalism. States determining the personhood of fellow humans is a CONFEDERATE platform position. A Democrat Position and the most clearly defined Democrat position in the history of the republic.

Second: Just the logistics of trying to pass 50 State Constitutional Amendments would BANKRUPT the Conservative Movements. And we would LOSE several.

That is the fact. Several states would FOREVER... CONSTITUTIONALLY... Define the Unborn as PROPERTY.

A Federal Amendment, would require ONE Effort... And we could LOSE 1/4 of the BLUE states and STILL PASS IT !!

3/4 is all we need to END this slaughter. A 50 state by state plan would defacto prevent this and ANYONE HONEST about it, knows it.

Fred Thompson knows it. Fred is Pro-Abortion and to the degree further to the Left of Rudy! Because at least Rudy isn’t a liar about it.

Third: Fred Proposes that we go ahead and pass ONE Federal Amendment ANYWAY... but not to solve the ROOT problem... but to EXEMPT the 50 State New Amendments from the Existing Full Faith and Credit Clause.

For the LOVE OF GOD ????

Is that SANE ??

Can you actually have this 50 + 1 and remotely be Pro-Life? Conservative? Republican?

No!

You are an 1860 CONFEDERATE PRO-SLAVERY DEMOCRAT !

Only now, it’s not Blacks who aren’t really Persons... it’s UNBORN BABIES.

Same theory.

Same cold heart.

Same LIE.

Same violation of Principle.

Same Godless EVIL.

And worse.

Oh yeah... WORSE.

Fred holds the EXACT SAME POSITION on Gay Marriage.

Yep..

50 MORE State Amendment battles to fight. Some to lose. Some to forever by GAY STATES.

And yes a 2nd Federal Amendment to Exempt THESE 50 state by state amendments from the Full Faith and Credit Clause.

That is 102 Amendments... a dozen or so we are SURE to LOSE !!

And for what?

A principle he dares call Federalism?

He does not know the meaning of the word...

No... I take that back.. that gives him cover... HE KNOWS... and HE LIES !!

So... You ask me... “RINO”??

Not even close !!

He’s LIGHTYEARS to the LEFT of being given the Honor of being called a RINO !!

Well, how many different ways can one ask if you support abortion. Is there not a limit, or are there infinite possibilities?

I’m sorry, but these “Christian leaders” don’t represent me. I’m a Christian, but I haven’t elected a one of them.

It is the same with Jesse Jackson representing “African-Americans”. He doesn’t.

Represent yourself and be the best witness for God you can be in your own walk. Don’t rely on others to give you what you can find or do for yourself.
