Liberty Counsel targets K-Mart, Sears for refusing to use 'Christmas' in ads

A Christian law firm is targeting two retail giants after they offended Christians with their advertising.

Officials at Liberty Counsel say K-Mart and Sears have renamed "Christmas trees" to "holiday trees" in their advertising. According to Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver, a ministry supporter asked K-Mart why it took the action.

"A representative from Sears Holding Corporation, which owns K-Mart as well, wrote back and said that Sears is a diverse company and it did not want to offend any of its associates or valued customers," explains Staver. "It also said this in its letter: we decided to call them, speaking of Christmas trees, holiday trees, because even if Christians are the only religion that use the Christmas tree, we do not want complaints from other customers from different religions complaining about our use of [the term] 'Christmas trees.'"

Staver says such a response is ridiculous and should be cause for a boycott by concerned Christians. He says in an effort not to offend, the retailers have in fact offended a large portion of their base. Sears took similar action two years ago, Staver points out, but was forced to reprint the ads to include "Merry Christmas" after a large public outcry.

Sears website says all Christmas trees are on sale through tomorrow: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/v_10153_12605_For+the+Home?adCell=AH

On the other hand KMart appears to be celebration Martha Stewart Day.
http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/search_10151_10104?storeId=10151&catalogId=10104&keyword=christmas+tree&gobutton.x=0&gobutton.y=0&gobutton=find
Which does bring up the “are they made with real Girl Scouts” question from Addams family.

LOL, I just searched Christmas Tree at Sears and got a lot of results for Christmas Trees, when I searched ‘Holiday Tree’ I pulled up a couple of sweaters.

K Mart, no go. Sears, I have to think about that as Sears policy is to take care of our service men. The ones that had jobs there are promised their jobs back AND will pay them while they are doing active duty. Maybe think twice about avoiding them.

Sears Search on Christmas

The last thread like this claimed that Lowes was doing the same. It was BS too.

Went to both on Black Friday, and bought something at both stores. K-Mart was lousy, as usual, but it had one thing in particular that I wanted. Sears, as always, was a fine experience. Nice store, good selection. Good prices.
