As if Detroit couldn't get much worse, riots could break out there as early as May 31. But a Democratic operative tells me I'm being premature; the real fun will start around Aug. 26.
Allow me to back up a few steps. I first reported on April 21 that Hillary Clinton could take more than 70 percent of Michigan's delegates and then wrote a column that made its way to Newsweek and NPR.
On Sunday, Joseph Edsall, Joseph Pulitzer II and Edith Pulitzer Moore Professor at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, published a blockbuster piece, Clinton Camp Says It Will Use The Nuclear Option. That refers to both Michigan (hurrah) and Florida:
"Hillary Clinton's campaign has a secret weapon to build its delegate count, but her top strategists say privately that any attempt to deploy it would require a sharp (and by no means inevitable) shift in the political climate within Democratic circles by the end of this month.
With at least 50 percent of the Democratic Party's 30-member Rules and Bylaws Committee committed to Clinton, her backers could -- when the committee meets at the end of this month -- try to ram through a decision to seat the disputed 210-member Florida and 156-member Michigan delegations. Such a decision would give Clinton an estimated 55 or more delegates than Obama, according to Clinton campaign operatives. The Obama campaign has declined to give an estimate.">
Not surprisingly, the Clinton camp insisted today, "There is no secret plan."
However, were she to launch such a plan, she would alienate Barack Obama's base -- throngs of young voters and particularly African-Americans, long taken for granted by the Democratic Party.
If Clinton wrests the nomination from Obama -- especially in such a dramatic power grab -- look for trouble in cities across America. That could start on May 31, but more likely would hit a tipping point when the Democratic National Convention begins in Denver at the end of August.
Detroit, already a racial tinderbox over the mess with Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's eight felony charges, will likely explode.
A nuclear option, indeed.

Detroit has been burning for decades before Hillary ever ran for President.
The Kawame Mess is one the City Council, Civic Leaders, Corporate Titans and the Governor will not address i.e. ask him or remove him from office.
Kawame, His Mom and Granholm are Clinton Super Delegates.
My question has been, when will the next shoe drop in regards to Kawame, and will it happen around the time of the Convention.
BTW, 1200am in Detroit, a predominantly African American station has had callers call in and comment on the potential negative coat-tails of the Kawamster for Barry...

Kwame is more like Bubba than Hillary. His sexual peccadilloes distract him from doing as much harm. Obama is much more dangerous-a “clean, articulate*” (*Joe Biden) Communist.
Wow...let’s just assume that the City of Detroit is populated by angry Mau-Mau’s bent on torching things. As a Michiganian, I find the tone of this piece more than a littlle insulting.
