FR Should Have an Appeals Process
06/14/2008 | Soliton

Posted on 06/14/2008 10:03:59 PM PDT by Soliton

I have been a member since 1999. I have been suspended at least twice and kicked off "for good" once. I deserved to be suspended once.

I believe that FR is a force for good in the world. Debate between people who consider themselves conservative, right or wrong, is a good thing.

I believe that FR would prosper more, that more would donate, if they really believed that they had a stake in the site. The risk, that I now expose myself to, that you can be booted forever for speaking your honestly conservative mind in accordance with the rules, can be stifling.

I suggest an appeals board consisting of long-term FReepers with differing views. They would enforce or overturn suspensions and bannings upon review based on the stated rules. They could even levy a reinstatement charge. At least it would be democratic in the conservative tradition.

Yes FR is a private business. So is General Motors, but the investors in GM have rights.

Wrong! GM is a corporation. FR is privately owned. If Jim sold stock shares the stock holders would have one vote per share.

You could always set up "Soliton Republic" and run it any way you want. Think about it...

Faming happens.

I've been flamed many times but never famed.

Is that when someone cusses you out in the form of a song and dance routine?

;-)

Funny thread.

Bottom line is the site belongs to Jim. What you say and how you act dictates whether you stay or go. There is no magic here. It is a Conservative website created by a Conservative for Conservatives. This means there is a high standard for modicum.

Even me, a liberal respects this and acts accordingly.

Debate is the gentlemanly art of cleverly using facts and
data to persuade. Debate is NOT name calling.

Example: A good writer would never end a sentence with a preposition.

I'm not an old timer, but, if no ones asked for the job yet, I'll take.

I would like to give fair warning however that at times I can be a closed-minded, mean, cruel, heartless, vicious, revenge seeking bitch who can carry a grudge against someone until they are no longer sucking air. But I can be fair, objective and quiet docile - once the meds kick in.

Well those are my qualifications, do I get the job?

Now that the detainees in Guantanamo have a constitutional right to habeas corpus you feel FR should follow suit.

Now you see baby, that's just why we got the divorce. You always did accentuate my negatives but never supported my positives.

But I can be fair, objective and quiet docile - once the meds kick in.

I gotta get the bbq pit going, hubby loves my skills at that. If you're a dad, Happy Father's Day. ;)

Habeas corpus is a leftwing plot by Soros to undermine our freedom to let authorities abuse us anyway they like without due process. As a staunch Conservative Christian, I despise habeas corpus.

I have an idea. Maybe FR can have a ‘Please ban this member’ button on every post, so that when a certain member reaches the ‘ban me now’ threshold of button pushes, from other FR members, poof, the member disappears?

To: Soliton; Jim Robinson

There is an appeal - Jim Robinson. I got banned once because I was too deadpan with my sarcasm - mod thought I was serious. It was a grave and touchy subject. An email to Jim took care of things. A newbie or someone who has a record of abuse may not win that appeal.

Now if Jim decides you’re gone - well, you’re visiting in his house; follow the house rules. They’re clear enough.

My past experience with forums is that when the founder steps back or retires the forum tends to lose what made it special in the first place. So I don’t want to see Jim delegate his role to an appeals committee.

OK, we can do that, and then because clowns like you overwhelm it, we’ll have to outsource the FR Appeals Board to India.

Then watch you screech about that.

Yes, we saw that here during Jim's recent hospital stay, when he was out of the loop completely. Remember the multiple mormon threads being posted in News/Activism. The mods would not budge, when asks, in redirecting them into the Religion Forum. They, the mods, had their own agenda, rules be damned. Nobody runs this site better than Jim R.?
