Rather Calls Obama 'Osama Bin Laden,' Will Media Notice?

On this morning's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, co-host Tiki Barber asked guest Dan Rather about his feelings regarding the recent Jesse Jackson imbroglio -- his "off mike" comments about Barack Obama. In the middle of praising Jackson, Rather referred to Barack Obama as "Osama bin Laden" -- and none of the four "Morning Joe" co-hosts reacted (nor did Rather).

Question: Will the media pick this up? That one of America's longest-serving network news anchors referred to one of the two presidential candidates as the world's most wanted terrorist -- and no one in the room seemed to notice?

While you ponder, here's what the former anchor of the "CBS Evening News" said (h/t to FiveThirtyEight who first noticed this blunder!):

RATHER: ...with Jesse Jackson, and I realize this is not popular to say with a lot of people, but I have a respect for Jesse Jackson. That he was an important figure in paving the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear.

Will media notice? Maybe not, but Jesse Jackson most likely will. I’m sure he will be offended at the comment that he paved the way for an Osama bin Laden to appear.

I doubt many people care much what Rather says about anything. I don’t.

Obama’s name is so similar to Osama. His middle name is Hussein. He was born a Muslim, even if he isn’t one anymore. His church of choice is a radical, anti-American congregation, led by a radical, anti-American pastor.

His leadership experience is nil.

His political wins were by fortuitous (extremely lucky yet questionable) revelations of previously sealed court documents from his opponents’ divorces. And his more recent win over Hillary was cemented by his insistence that a technicality should disqualify the delegates from two states who held their primaries too early. All that, plus the lack of due diligence by the press corps, allowing him to get away with errors, misspoken words, voiced opinions, and a voting record that are not in tune with middle American voters, let alone the Right and moderate Left.

It is surprising he’s made it this far. In a sane world, he would’ve never have made it past the Democrat vetting process for their candidates for the primaries. He should’ve been offered a tasty morsel (earmarked funds for his state with his name on it) and a promise of support by the Party for the governorship of his state. He should’ve never been considered a candidate for President. Then again, neither should’ve John Kerry, which probably means Bush Derangement Syndrome is still in effect.

It happened last week. The media ignored it.

Then again Dan Rather is an old man who’s mind may be going (especially after his previous history of experimenting with drugs including heroin and LSD, strictly as a journalist, don’t you know).

The Left had better be careful in denigrating McCain because of his age. Fat Ted Kennedy and Robert Sheets Byrd have far worse mental decay and they are still setting the national agenda.

I noticed it was last week, but nothing was said. I didn’t see anything on FR, but maybe I missed it (and I did search).

The media has already decided to bury this when it’s a liberal who says it. But when a normal person says it, they leap on it.
A quick google search on “Obama Osama” will show it.

It was on Michael Savage’s radio show Friday evening but I don’t know how many people are listing to talk radio after Friday evening commute home.

Not to put his “ahead” of the competition on this, it was timing. Just waiting for the others to get around to it for him to rebroadcast it awhile.

It needs to be heard.

The older Dan Rather gets, the more he sounds like Abe Simpson...

"We used to say if a frog had side pockets, he'd carry a handgun"

"His lead is as thin as turnip soup."

"Whenever I'm confused, I just check my underwear. It holds the answer to all the important questions."

"One's reminded of that old saying, 'Don't taunt the alligator until after you've crossed the creek.'"

"Dear Mr. President, There are too many states nowadays. Please eliminate three. P.S. I am not a crackpot."

"We had a slight hitch in our giddy up, but we corrected that."

"This race is shakier than cafeteria Jell-O."

"The last time the meteors came, we thought the sky was on fire. Naturally, we blamed the Irish. We hanged more 'n a few."

"When I was a pup, we got spanked by presidents 'til the cows came home! Grover Cleveland spanked me on two non-consecutive occasions!"

Those are funny quotes.

I’m not sure how much Dan Rather has changed. I think many of those Abe Simpson quotes could have come from Dan Rather at any time in his career.

In all fairness to Dan Blather, they are increasingly difficult to tell apart...
