Turns out Hillary's campaign had a strategy that would have killed Obama's fledgling campaign in its crib but didn't use it in time.
Mark Penn, the top campaign strategist for Hillary Rodham Clinton's campaign, advised her to portray Barack Obama as having a “limited” connection “to basic American values and culture,” according to a forthcoming article in The Atlantic. [snip]Penn, the presidential campaign’s chief strategist, wrote in a memo to Clinton excerpted in the article: “I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and in his values.”

Being anti-American is not a negative in getting the Democratic nomination.
Its like the pot calling the kettle black. The Clintoons are anti American as well. Just not as up front about it as Obama.
Their demographic are different and more of hers are more traditional Americans than are his.

Barak Obama does not know much about the United States. He said he had been in 57 states and had a couple more to go, said that as President he would be dealing with world leaders for 8 to 10 years, and said he did not look like all the other Presidents who had been on the dollar bills. Either he flunked American Government or Mathematics 101. He sounds not so much like the product of affirmative action, as he sounds like the product of special education classes in our public schools.

True, but they are a home-grown American form of anti-American, from the same type of people that gave us the Progressive Movement, the New Deal, the Great Society, and other leftist nonsense. They pop up from time to time, and then are beaten back as true American values win out eventually. Obama’s anti-American values are foreign, of the kind that they spout in outdoor cafes in the middle east, in Indonesia and western European universities and wherever Americans are hated for being the most successful and the most benign stewards of the world in man’s history.
