Of all the names floated around out there, Suozzi is the least radically left.
Of course, I'd like Paterson to pick someone like John Faso, but I know that's not going to happen.
When Tom Suozzi ran against Eliott Spitzer in the gubernatorial primaries, cutting property taxes was high on his list, Suozzzi opposed gay marriage, and backed a ban on late-term abortion.
Rep. Peter King also wants to be picked, but I wonder if there’s even the slightest chance that Gov. Paterson will pick a Republican.
Suozzi, of course, replaced uber-Corrupt RINO Tom Gulotta as Nassau County Executive. I couldn’t stand that cretin when I was a child (yes, I had political consciousness back then, via my father).
What about Tim Bishop, who represents eastern Suffolk?
What do you think of Suozzi, compared to the others on Paterson’s “short list?”
Glad you started out being a political type so young. :)
If you’re from NYS, tell Gov. Paterson who you want to represent your state. Contact info. here:
http://www.ny.gov/governor/contact/index.html
Actually, I would like Rep. King more than Suozzi, because he ran on the NYS Right-to-Life Party line, plus King is a good fighter against terrorism, and even had his life threatened. I just don’t think Paterson would pick a Republican, but you never know.
“What about Tim Bishop, who represents eastern Suffolk?”
I’m not familiar with him, but have heard his name a lot. If anyone knows him, please let us know what Tom Bishop is like.
No, it’ll be Caroline Kennedy.
She’s the perfect choice for the rats - - a complete idiot who will do exactly as she is told.
“No, itll be Caroline Kennedy.”
I’ve heard that Gov. Paterson doesn’t really want to pick Caroline, but is being pressured by SOME Dems (other Dems don’t want Caroline, either).
NYS voters ought to contact Paterson and tell them they don’t want Caroline Kennedy, which is why I put Paterson’s contact info. in post #6.
I did more research on Rep. Peter King, and what he intends to do is run against whoever Paterson picks (in 2010).
I'd love to see that.
Is it better to pick an uncharismatic 51 year old, with a famous (maiden) name, who will probably not even win reelection, being vulnerable in the primary as well as the general, or to have a liberal with some alleged DINO qualities?
“Is it better to pick an uncharismatic 51 year old, with a famous (maiden) name, who will probably not even win reelection, being vulnerable in the primary as well as the general, or to have a liberal with some alleged DINO qualities?”
I’d like to hear some thoughts on that myself, and in fact, the same thing crossed my mind.
But then we’re talking about the very liberal New York State.
Yeah, the odds that she’d be NY senator-for-life are pretty good. I could say something about that, but I won’t.
Her app’t would be good in that it would tick off Hillary (who doesn’t plan to remain Sec’y of State for long, IMHO), and might even set up a clash in the primaries between the two of them.
I think Paterson got nettled by Fred Armisen’s lampoon of him, and the fact that he is being told what to do by everyone in NY and then some. His pick will probably be Cuomo, as a payback for getting Spitzer out of the way.
It’s funny that Caroline endorsed Obama, and now she has a good chance to take Hillary’s seat. lol
I guess Caroline Kennedy and Cuomo are the front runners, and if Cuomo is picked, he would be more able than Kennedy to win against the Republican candidate in the elections, as he is a better speaker and is an experienced politician.
Maybe we’ll be surprised and neither of them will be picked. I think I’ll email a political analyst in NYS and see if he’ll have Suozzi on his radio show and talk about his chances at being picked. It’s worth a try.
[forgive the blue language]
PUTA — Party unity their asses! ;’)
> I think I’ll email a political analyst in NYS and see if he’ll have Suozzi on his radio show
Good idea, good luck. At least it could muddy the waters.
'Saturday Night Live' mocks Governor Paterson's blindness, past drug useSaturday Night Live pushed the envelope last night with... Fred Armisen as Paterson during a segment on "Weekend Update." ...Armisen, as Paterson, says he has three criteria: economic experience, upstate influence and someone with a disability who is completely unprepared for the job - just like him. "I want to choose a senator not from the glitzy coke parties of Manhattan but rather from the shabbier coke circles of upstate new york," he said. "I'm tired of all these fancy, two-eyed smart alecs from the big city running the whole show. It's time we get someone from Utica, Syracuse or Schnectady - towns where people have something a little off about him. I mean, they don't have to be blind," he said. "I just need someone with like a gamey arm or maybe the giant gums with the tiny teeth. Let's get one of those in the Senate." The fake Paterson points out that he only became governor because of former Gov. Eliot Spitzer's prostition scandal. "Whoever is appointed senator must - like me - be caught totally off guard and be comically unprepared to take office," he said. "Come on, I'm a blind man who loves cocaine who was suddenly appointed governor of New York. My life is an actual plot from a Richard Pryor movie." |
Paterson In A Blind Rage Over 'SNL' Skit
Governor Paterson proposes 'Obesity Tax,' a tax on non-diet sodasGov. Paterson, as part of a $121 billion budget to be unveiled Tuesday, will propose an "obesity tax" of about 15% on nondiet drinks. This means a Diet Coke might sell for a $1 - even as the same size bottle of its calorie-rich alter ego would go for $1.15. Paterson's budget also calls for a 3% cut in education spending, a $620-a-year tuition hike at SUNY and a $600 increase at CUNY - and about $3.5 billion in health care cuts, a source said. The Democratic governor will not call for a broad-based income tax boost, but he will push to restore the sales tax on clothing and footwear... State employees again will be asked to forgo their 3% raises next year and defer five days' pay until they leave their jobs, the source said. In all, Paterson will propose about $9 billion in cuts, $4 billion in new taxes and fees, and $1.5 billion in nonrecurring revenue, a second source said. The so-called obesity tax would generate an estimated $404 million a year. Milk, juice, diet soda and bottled water would be exempt from the tax... Public health advocates welcomed news of the tax, saying it would help the fight against childhood obesity. "Raising the price of this liquid candy will put children and teens on a path to a healthier diet," said Elie Ward of the American Academy of Pediatrics of New York State.

[and now, the buried lead:] The Paterson administration also announced steps yesterday to expand the state's social services net, including a 30% increase in welfare payments over three years starting January 2010, increased money for food banks and expanded access to the state's Family Health Plus program. Paterson also hopes to make it easier for people to enroll in Medicaid by eliminating face-to-face interviews and fingerprinting requirements.
Unfortunately...you know...I think that...you know...Governor Patterson will...you know...go and...you know...appoint Kennedy.
Why not? She fills the bill perfectly. She's another ditzy Democrat that is a perfect fit for Reid, Biden, etc. They have no brains. The bar is pretty low to be elected as a Democrat to the US Senate.
“Paterson also hopes to make it easier for people to enroll in Medicaid by eliminating face-to-face interviews “
Seems to me this makes it easier to cheat!!
There’s a fat tax, but there’s also a tax if you go to a gym and work out. Go figure. :)
I don’t agree with Governor Paterson on a lot of issues, especially the life issue, but I really didn’t like what SNL did. I never watch the show. Different people come and go on SNL, and the show is still mean-spirited to Republicans and Dems alike.
“Good idea, good luck.”
If I hear and interview w/Suozzi, I’ll post it.
