Dalai Lama Stuns Audience... Admits: "I Love George Bush"

The Dalai Lama, a lifelong champion of non-violence on Saturday candidly stated that terrorism cannot be tackled by applying the principle of ahimsa because the minds of terrorists are closed.

"It is difficult to deal with terrorism through non-violence," the Tibetan spiritual leader said delivering the Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Lecture here.

He also termed terrorism as the worst kind of violence which is not carried by a few mad people but by those who are very brilliant and educated.

"They (terrorists) are very brilliant and educated...but a strong ill feeling is bred in them. Their minds are closed," the Dalai Lama said.

He said that the only way to tackle terrorism is through prevention. The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile left the audience stunned when he said "I love President George W Bush." He went on to add how he and the US President instantly struck a chord in their first meeting unlike politicians who take a while to develop close ties. The loopy peaceniks in the audience must have loved that.

The Dalai Lama always seems to defend unpopular people. IIRC a few years ago he said that he felt sorry for Saddam.

The Dalai Lama based on interviews sounds like a rightwing libertarian based on his views on the right to self-defense. That alone is a no-no in lib circles where appeasing the enemy is the golden rule.

I think it’s because the Dalai Lama operates at a personal level. I would imagine that Dubya’s forthrightness, and, if I may say so, pureness of heart, would be an instant winner with him.

BTW, I attended a lecture and discussion by the Dalai Lama at Lehigh U. last summer. He’s a very unprepossessing sort, and he constantly emphasized basic ideas and simple approaches, although a class was offered which featured an introduction to the arcana of Tibetan belief.

The Dalai Lama may be revered by latte liberals, but he isn’t one of them. He condemns homosexual sex, as well as sex during the day time for some reason.

I think he’s one of those “liberals” who got mobbed by reality when his country was invaded and he was sentenced to exile!
