As a career counselor and recruiter for most of my life, I know how hard it is to find the right job. I hope these sites help.

Excellent, I’m going to pass this along to some people I know.

Thanks for the info, but as a career counselor, you should know that finding a job via websites is a virtual dead end.

Networking your way into a job is the quickest (and best) way to find a job.

“What Color is Your Parachute” should be required reading for anyone out of work. It is pretty much the Bible for job networking.

actually, I am a federal worker and we get some of our people by directing them to websites such as the ones posted. I met a woman in November working on the campaign - i liked her, directed her to our website and now she is starting work in late March.

What Color Is Your Parachute should be required reading in both high school and college. Having said that, I must disagree with your assumption: I found EVERY job I've had since leaving the workforce agency in 2000 via the Internet, including a vice president position at a mortgage brokerage. If you don't know how to proceed, the Internet sites can be a time waster, but a thorough, methodical search will almost certainly yield results. I would advise a job-seeker to spend 60% of their time on the Internet, 20% on networking and 20% on cold-calling employers in their fields.

If you have a state job bank I suggest posting and staying active there as well. I got two inquiries and accepted my current position from a company who contacted me after seeing my resume.

"If you have a state job bank I suggest posting and staying active there as well."

If you are receiving unemployment insurance (UI) it is almost always a requirement that you be registered with your state employment commission, which nowadays means being active at these state job sites.

In my spare time I have been building two job sites... I don't make any money from them, but when a recruiter friend in California told me just how bleak the job situation is over there, I decided to do something in my spare time (weekends and evenings.)

They are nearly finished - and I would like some suggestions.

Jobs Toolbar
This application is a toolbar that will appear at the top of your screen. You have to look for it... it does not require an install, but is done in DHTML.

JobScrubber

I need to go back and finesse this one too...

Building search tools is VERY time consuming...

Any tips, opinions, ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The jobs toolbar will look just like a toolbar, and enable a jobseeker to jump from site to site without searching for the next page. It also logs which sites have been visited and not visited.

I also put in links to newspapers, and am now fleshing out the content pages... so there might still be a couple of dead links in the lower page.

The toolbar up top works, and I'm in the process of refining the search boolean algorithms to return maximum results.

:)
