When discussing identity we must first determine the audience to whom we are speaking. To some people identity is who they are. "My name is Ploni". To others identity might be a reflection of some important fact to which they identify answering the questions what they are, what they do. "I am a doctor", "I am a Republican", "I am a Jew". But is this really identity or something else? more

The identity and fantasies that people create and believe about themselves.
The identity of fanatical leftists, socialists, Harley riders, “do gooders”, etc. that are not that well connected to empirical or pragmatic reality as I know and believe it.
People motivated to do believe and do stupid things because they have a deep narcissistic need to be loved or thought of as special or unique. They're all people with no real talent but who think they're all unique. They're just more meaningless ciphers. They'll sacrifice their own lives to be thought of as noble or “good”.
They're all naive evil doers in the end. They're all fantasists.
They're making a real mess of the world.
It's alot closer than it might seem, taken that way.
but, on review, this material is irrelevant to said thesis.
