The latest news (aside from the SuperBowl) is that the Republicans in Congress have attempted to have their castration reversed. That's right: for some reason, they finally decided -- after the election, and therefore too late -- to act like conservatives: the House has rejected the Stimulus Bill in a bipartisan fashion, with not a single Republican vote. Let me repeat that. Not a single Republican vote.
Do you realize what that means? It means that, after the $700 billion dollar "emergency bailout" (Epic FAIL!), the Congress has received such an earful from its constituents, that even after the shellacking the GOP took in the 2008 elections, not even the RINOs were having anything to do with this bill. And in the Senate, Minority (err, Minority Party) leader Mitch McConnell was making the rounds of the Sunday talk shows saying that he didn't think the Bill would get any GOP support in the Senate either. That means no Olympia Snow, no Lindsay Graham, no John "Obama would make a fine President, and Sarah sucks") McCain. This means that with a genuine worldwide financial meltdown worldwide, the worst economic trends since the 1970's, a shellacking of the Minority Party, a sycophantic media, *and* a honeymoon period, The Annointed One cannot get significant buy-in on his first major policy proposal.
In the meantime, US companies have laid off thousands, such as Pfizer laying off 8,000 highly trained specialists; Caterpillar laying off 20,000, and cuts even at firms such as Black and Decker, Kodak, and GM. Oh, did I mention the housing crisis and the problems with financial companies?
Economic ineptitude...check.
Let's look at a few other items in the news.
Obama gave a major foreign policy interview...to Al-Arabiya, a 24-hour Arabic language new service. During this interview, he had the following sterling quotes:
Iran's response?
"This request means Western ideology has become passive, that capitalist thought and the system of domination have failed," according to Iranian government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham; and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad echoes the sentiment thusly:
The US "stood against the Iranian people in the past 60 years"
and
"Those who speak of change must apologise to the Iranian people and try to repair their past crimes," he said.
This sentiment was echoed by John Bolton, who said:
In my view, we lost the fight. Tehran has emerged the ultimate winner in maintaining its nuclear program, he added.
Getting punked by Iran...check.
And of course, we have the military: Obama has announced 10% cut in the Pentagon Budget, and wants to close Guantanamo, which should make us all feel safer.
Attacking the military...check.
And have you come across his decision that the states can set their own fuel economy standards? Obama wants to impose a 35-mpg combinedfuel efficiency standard by 2016.
He lectures us on thermostats:
"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.
"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.
...and then insists on cranking up the White House to 72 degrees, and it is because he is from Hawaii?
I moved from Arizona to Minnesota in 2007. Do I get fuel subsidies to heat my house to 84 degrees (which is what I had the AC set to in mid-summer?)
Fuel idiocy. Check.
And finally, how about the ongoing salmonella outbreak? In peanuts. From Georgia.
Do you catch my drift?
I thought this was supposed to be about change.
But, as the French say,
"...plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose."
Let's extend a warm welcome to Barack Hussein Obama, the Nation's first black Jimmy Carter.
The Democrats hoped he was going to be their Ronald Reagan...
but if we manage to survive his Administration, he may just bring us our NEXT Ronald Reagan.
I voted for Sarah Palin.
Cheers!
without the sweater.
Cheers!
...and Kyrie Eleison!
without the sweater.
I respectfully disagree, Jimmy Carter had a peanut farm... so he knew something about business... Barry has no frickin' clue...
I voted for Sarah Palin, too. Juan “bail-out” McCain just happened to be polluting the top of the ticket.
Obama will never live down these words.
Good vanity. Thanks for posting.
Boffo post gw
Also fits in with the shirt with 0boma’s pic and says, Welcome Back Carter
Gosh- you are an optimist.
It has been two weeks and i am praying jimmy (the worst president in history)carter, gets back into the oval office.
Jimmy Carter also served his nation in the USN—something Barry O would never do. Carter was a fool on some things (and still is) but I think Obama will make him look good.
