MySpace Rant
02/03/2009 | Self

Posted on 02/03/2009 5:56:36 PM PST by Paved Paradise

Okay... I can't take it anymore. Who are all these so-called "Christians" with MySpace pages that are filled with profanity, filthy song lyrics, sexual inuendo, and some blatant sexual come-ons, and so forth?

What kind of witness is that? Well, truth is I don't believe these people are Christians (you shall know them by their fruit) and I know of no truly repentant and on-their-knees Christian that would ever put that on there. They are smearing the name of Christ. It just infuriates me.

One of my nieces is doing this very thing and I'm ashamed for her. She was just married six months ago and has posted provocative photographs of herself.

While I'm ranting, I'd like to mention another thing that just riles me. My niece's mother, newly divorced, is trolling for guys on her MySpace account and has posted pictures of her daughters in rather skimpy get-ups. These are family pictures that aren't meant for mass distribution. Who knows who is seeing this stuff? She's also put enough information on there that a smart person could find out who her kids are. Worse, one of her "friends," (these people will have things like 'has 212 friends' and have really raped the meaning of that term) has pics of herself posted, rear-end side only, in a bikini (and they aren't good either - the Fashion Police here on FR would have a field day). This gal has posted all kinds of pictures of herself and her 8 year old daughter and one pervert commented on the photos, "You're BOTH cute." Arrrrghhh.

What kind of mother would expose her child to this?????

I’m sorry this is happening to your family. MySpace is a cesspool. And, of course - as you rightly discerned - not all who call themselves Christians, actually are.

Thanks for the kind remarks. It really upsets me. I don’t think people are very discerning about who their “friends” are and now the big thing is Facebook and Twitter. I’m hearing that even professionals are networking through Twitter. Matter of fact, I heard an interview on Hugh Hewitt’s show last night with Mohler, the head of the S. Baptist Convention and he said he twitters all day to keep current with the young people.

It’s a new world....

Why the hell would you post something like this here? Your life that boring? And to boot, you start out wondering why the idiots are bashing Religion, and then turn it to your own family... Get a life man!!!

Hey Admin... Say this cat some embarrassment and yank this thread...

Everybody wants to be a star... And MySpace gives them that illusion.

It ranks up there with Mtv if ya ask me.

Something similar happened in our family. Then someone sent the link to grandma and grandpa. Also, a potential employer happened across it. The pictures may still be out there but at least now they can only be viewed by those “invited” to see their pages as it has since been changed to a “private” setting. I know this doesn’t address that main point of your rant, but at least it did help get them to stop advertising for the entire world to see. It’s a start. A little shame can go a long way.

What a pathetic joke - I probably have way LESS time on my hands than you - I’d bet your bottom dollar but I can do things very quickly (I have to) like MOST women - women get a lot done in less time and most gals know just what I’m talking about.

I care about my nieces and I don’t think that that is a waste of time - maybe you are a slow reader but I can scan things very, very quickly.

Don’t be a jerk. It’s a serious issue.

I placed this in blogs/chat. What is your problem? I don’t think people posting pics of their kids and trolling for sexual conquests is safe at all and the kids have no choice.

You sound like one of the creeps.

The colleges do a great job trying to get this message across to the kids about how once it’s in cyberspace... and employers do check but even when they are private, they are not so private because the kids often have hundreds and hundreds of friends who can all see the stuff.

I don't even know what twitter is but Hugh Hewitt is talking about it all the time. I'm so behind on the latest. I didn't start using a cellphone until just about three years ago.

As far as people posting too much personal stuff, yes that is a problem. Women are being very naive and stupid when it comes to themselves--but they are being reckless if they have kids and they are putting it all out their for the world to see.

Thanks Annie. I think MS did a great job on that one. Meanwhile, too bad it can’t turn over the idiot parents that post pics of their kiddies while trolling for sex.

Like anything else, myspace and facebook are really just tools. It’s all about how you use it. My myspace is kept fairly private but even if you could see it, it’s mostly a blog about astrophotography and is decorated as such. I probably have the most boring page on the site for a guy my age. Of course the inappropriate myspace and facebook pages are the ones that get talked about the most, but it can just as often be used for mundane or even professional purposes. The way I see it, if a potential employer is going for look a person’s myspace page to get the dirt, why not use it to my advantage and give a good impression? Perhaps using these tools in a “mundane” way can set you apart in a good way.
