Forty-five years ago tonight, one of television's most memorable moments took place - the Beatles' first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Over 70 million viewers tuned in on that Sunday evening long ago.
Here are the first ten minutes of the original broadcast, as it aired on CBS-TV, including commercials.
This clip includes three of the five songs the Beatles performed that night.

They suck . That’s why just about every song they ever recorded has been covered , and by a wide variety of artists . Yesterday alone has been covered 2500 times . They really suck .
I wonder about some people.
Oh and you can shut the H up too
My two favorite Beatles’ albums.
The Animals were pretty good, too. House of the Rising Sun is a classic.
And without Linda Eastman backup vocals the boys were really, really nothing!
Parade of the obvious, cliched and the lame!
Im pretty much an old Curmudgeon and I love their music.
I like the Stones even better cause they were the bad boys of rock and I thought I fit into that mold better...
they ended their short career with that style. much of there early stuff was immature.... ...but their middle period (and a goodly amount of the drug induced stuff at the end) was genius.
I have ALWAYS noticed that. The performance of Yer Blues in great musically ... but Yoko was about as useful as a tootpick is to the toothless.

Revolver is the best The Beatles did - hands down. Mature and succinct. One for the ages.
over rated? lol compared to whom? one way to put this into context is to examine the slop that was on the radio when the Beatles came out. The Beatles not only created a genre but led and influenced quite a few bands. Not bad for about a 8 year career.

greatest band ever...thanx for still stirring my heart and inspiring me...
Their early hits - like Please Please Me and From Me To You - may seem "immature" compared to their great middle period (Rubber Soul, Revolver) - but at the time of their releases, they were quite fresh. In fact, songs that followed those two hits, like I Want To Hold Your Hand and I Feel Fine were considered structurally progressive and quite innovative for 1964 - far ahead of what most were doing.
Otherwise, I agree wholeheartedly with what you said.

If you had said, I didn't care for their music, or it wasn't my cup of tea..that I can understand. But by saying they were "overrated," makes your standard the one that all is measured by. A little bit much, don't ya think?
..And in America, they were together as a band for only six years.
Twenty number one hits and 18 number one albums during that span.
Not bad.
