In announcing the USs plans to withdraw from Iraq, and going as far as setting a date, President Obama has literally given away the Iraqi store. Citing progress, the continually improving Iraqi training cycles, and Afghanistan the United States has given the terrorist organization plenty of times to order new drapes and carpeting.

Not really. Actually he has written over Iraq to Iran. Al-Qaeda certainly might try to establish itself again in some Sunni areas, although this is dubious at best. The Sunnis which temporarily accepted Al-Qaeda amongst them, have run out of patience and turned on them. Iran however will be accepted by many influential Shias as a “protector and partner”. Leaving Iraq, without permanently binding in politically to us, means giving it defacto to Iranian influence.
Well, I’m no BHO fan, but didn’t I hear that the current Iraqi government wanted us out by a date certain, anyway? Either they think they have it under control, or they have a death wish.
The dates that Acting President Obama has now agreed too, are actually a little longer than Bush’s SOFA agreement after the surge insured victory.
Great tagline..
We invaded them, that means they don’t get to pick when we leave. At least thats how its *supposed* to work. (before we became PC). We should closely supervise them for a decade, like we did Japan and Germany.
And BO is once again proving he is a whore and naive, The left wants us out, so he says we will leave. He couldnt care less what results, and frankly, is not enough of a thinker to even imagine it could go bad.
He even made sure we are gone 3 months before the mid term election. Never even crosed his mind that it might go really bad there the minute we leave, affecting the mid-terms.
The only success he will have is from turncoat republicans who keep things functioning well for him,,,like Gates, Powell, McCain, etc.
They give him cover by preventing complete failures that point squarely at Obama.
Sometimes, i think it would be smarter to step back and let Obama show us how its done. Let him appoint a virulently anti-military SecDef who cancels every program we have. When Gates does it for him, it gives the libs cover, after all, BUSH’s SecDef agreed with it,,,McCain voted for it,,etc,,
EXXXXXXXACTLY...
Good post..

We invaded Iraq and installed the government they have now. If the government wants US forces out, we discuss it with them and they change their minds, or Iraq has a new government. We own Iraq, and we need to be there long enough to ensure ALL our War Aims are Achieved, whether that means ten years, twenty years, fifty years or longer.
I don’t think that it’s possible to bring democracy to savage barbarians who think that it’s wonderful to strap bombs around their childrens waists. When we withdraw, that country will go back to the hell that it was, but we won’t hear anything about it in the press.
I don't think emulating Soviet policy towards their Warsaw Pact satellite nations is really a prudent course of action.
Anywhere.

Get real. This is realpolitik. We invaded, we won, we own Iraq until we’re ready to give it back to a friendly government. At least, that’s what I hope Obama is planning.
I just can’t seem to get the funny characters to go away.
try again.
I am being real.
Have you paid any attention to what we've been doing in Iraq for the last 6 years?
We turned Iraq over to a friendly government back in June of 2004.
You may be happy to throw away all the gains made since the initial invasion by turning all of Iraq, to say nothing of our coalition partners, against us, but our policy there isn't being run by a 13 year old ("we own Iraq") who's grasp of strategy is barely sufficient to win a game of RISK, so it's really a moot point.
One of our war aims was to install a democratic government in Iraq that could influence its neighbors to move toward democracy. If we end up with a friendly to the US, stable, democratic government in Iraq that can defend itself and maintain order and they want us to leave, then okay, we leave. But I don’t see that happening soon. Until then, we do in Iraq what is in the national interest of the US. That’s why we invaded.
