Sixteen years ago, Bill Clinton surged to an improbable presidential victory over incumbent George H.W. Bush, primarily on the strength of a snarky campaign phrase: "It's the economy, stupid."

Now, Republicans appear to be crafting their own version in an effort to recapture both chambers in Congress next year.

Their message: President Obama's fiscal policy "spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much."

It’s not enough just to be against something. You also have to have something to offer. I suggest another contract with America with whatever it takes to get a balanced budget and term limits.

And given their spending up until 2006, the current crop of Republicans are different how, exactly?

They did not tax too much, 1 out of 3 isn't bad in the present situation.

The republicans also in the house voted against the TARP bailout (plus immigration - amnesty) so maybe they are learning at least something.

The electable alternative is what?

Walsh said of Democrats, "I'm increasingly optimistic about Republicans' chances in 2010.

I'm not. When the 2010 census numbers are in, (this will be the fastest completed census in history, and the MSM will marvel at it's efficiency), all the heavy democrat voting states will gain congressional seats ensuring a rat majority, possibly even a super majority.

The worst is yet to come IMO. I would not be surprised to see supreme court justices being impeached for the first time in history.

” I suggest another contract with America with whatever it takes to get a balanced budget and term limits.”

Republicans should take up the “Term LImit” battle. That should be our litmus test. Use this as an example and hold up signs of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd.

Force the RATS into going against this.

I figure you hold a convention of republicans somewhere composed of want-to-bes. They would be seeking office in congress and the state houses. They pledge to be part of the 2/3’s needed for congress and the 3/4’s needed for the state houses in order to get term limits.

Precisely. The current generation of Republicans screwed the pooch. Why should the electorate believe them now? Because their party's leader likes to be hip-hop? Because they say conservatism is dead? Because they like "nice" Republicans like Collins and Snowjob?
