Sen. David Vitter (R-Louisiana) tried to stand up for civil society and taxpayers last week but his effort was shot down by liberal Democratic senators.
Vitter tried to prevent the radical direct-action group, ACORN, and its affiliates from benefitting under the odious national service legislation known as the (proposed) GIVE Act. The bill itself, which received a glowing review from John Podesta's pro-Obama propaganda factory, the Center for American Progress, would give government money to volunteer programs and would dramatically expand the feel-good liberal program, AmeriCorps, which ACORN and other groups have used to promote their own political objectives.
Vitter's amendment to the bill known as HR1388 would have prevented ACORN from receiving funding under the legislation and from participating in any program authorized by it involving the use of government-sponsored volunteers.
Vitter noted in a press release that ACORN is
currently under federal investigation, and this is simply not the sort of organization that should be funded by taxpayer dollars. Although this bill prevents the use of funds for political activities, a loophole exists that would allow volunteers sponsored by the federal government to work on behalf of ACORN, freeing up ACORN workers to engage in voter registration activities. The fact that ACORN has been caught engaging in a number of suspect activities is of even more concern. [emphasis added]

can we make our own ACORN? It seems to be a-ok with the people.
ACORN is a big part of the fuhrers fascist regime, and the stooges in Congress know it.
No, Vitter, you didn’t ‘stand up’ against this thing if it went through. You gave the typical, half-assed, milquetoast ‘republican’ response to an issue that requires someone with guts and selflessness to counter effectively. Your position in Congress is still more important to you than the country is, so you gave it a weak approach. You’re a wuss, as are all the rest of your colleagues.
You're kidding right? Odd you'd be in the #2 spot with that comment.
Its like a tropical hurricane of fecal material.
What are you saying, ilgipper? You think we should make a corrupt organization like ACORN to cheat the vote? You're kidding right? Odd you'd be in the #2 spot with that comment.
Good question. Anyone willing to give up their ethics or go to jail for political reasons? A true ACORN-like conservative org would be swarming with Feds.
Of course the Democrats did away with the provision to keep funds away from ACORN. They are the “Brownshirts” who’ve been enlisted in the cause of our “Great Leader” in bringing about our “Transformation” as a nation!
I know Republicans are getting beat up here — but may I suggest we “reframe” how we look at Vitter’s attempt to stop/slow down these funds going to ACORN? Vitter isn’t stupid — he knew he had NO chance of stopping it. THe very fact that he publicly and on the floor pointed out that funds were going to ACORN was a FAVOR to us, a “heads up.”
It’s time we take up where Vitter and his colleagues either cannot or will not go. This next year must be a time of “Tea Parties” and protests, rallies and campaigns — not to win elections, but to SAVE the Republic! If all we do is complain here, then one day, this very forum will be illegal. Get active in PEACEFUL but FORCEFUL opposition to the robbery of our Liberty and our heritage — or you will indeed need the implements of the 2nd Amendment to protect them in the not too distant future.
And how many Republitards/RINOs joined the democrats? 26 in the house and a dozen or so in the Senate.
