Bring Back Poll Taxes and Literacy Tests

Unfortunately we have lost what our Founding Fathers created. The Founders created a LIMITED GOVERNMENT REPUBLIC. Today we have an unlimited government democracy, which if historical trends prevail, will lead us to socialism as it is practiced in most of Europe today.

When the republic was established, only property owning males who could read and write were permitted to vote in federal elections. The republic was set up to protect the interests of property owners, taxpayers, businessmen, and gun owners (Second Amendment). It was not designed to give the property-less urban proletariat the right to ride roughshod over the rest of us.

Unfortunately, the public education establishment in this country has been taken by radical neo-Stalinist social engineers who do not teach the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, or the Declaration of Independence. Instead students are taught all about Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez. Condoms are distributed, and the Bible, prayer, or any mention of God are strictly prohibited. Instead of reading the writings and documents put forward by our Founding Fathers, students read books like Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy's Roomate.

Our legal system has been equally perverted and twisted. The judicial branch was originally designed to interpret the law, not make their own laws. In Iowa, for example, the state supreme court recently ruled, I mean legislated, that same sex couples now have the right to marry. Who gave them that authority? And then you had the U.S. Supreme Court suddenly determine that the "right" to abortion is implicit in the Constitution. Truth is neither abortion or marriage are mentioned in the Constitution, which means these issues are up to state legislatures to decide, not activist judges making their own laws and coming up with their own rights.

Obviously we will never go back to a system where only property owning males can vote in federal elections. But, would be too much to ask that the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and the Declaration of Independence be taught in our public schools? Could we not insist that voters attain a certain level of literacy (in English!)and education before being allowed to register to vote? And that only taxpayers (with certain exemptions such as military personnel, law enforcement, and retired citizens) be permitted to vote in federal elections.

BHO is a Saul Alinsky-trained community organizer whose chief constituency is the urban proletariat whose main political objective is to transfer wealth, power, and property from the halves to the have nots as Alinsky wrote about in his book Rules For Radicals which is the American version of the Communist Manifesto much as Alinsky himself is the American version of Karl Marx. Of course BHO could never gotten where he is today with just the backing of his urban proletariat base. There were plenty of bourgeois liberals living in upscale suburbs smitten by his vacuous platitudes, metrosexual hipness, and suave presentation largely promoted by the left stream media and depraved Hollyweird celebutards.

That BHO utterly detests traditional American values cannot be in doubt. Why else would this erstwhile Muslim raised youth joined Rev. Wright's racist and hate spewing church? We are talking about a man who is loathe to place his hand over his heart during the singing of the national anthem, is contemptuous of flag lapel pins, a man who bows before Saudi monarchs and listens with rapt attention to vicious anti-American rants delivered by Latin American Marxist dictators. I cannot think of a more foul specimen of a politician than the vacuous, loquacious, ubiquitous, arrogant, elitist, pseudointellectual, phony, vain, narcissistic, pathetic, radical, egotistical, charlatan, empty suit who now occupies 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Unless we get back to basics, free market economics, limited government, rule of law, restrained judiciary, responsible legislators and a commitment to traditional values and secure borders and common sense government, all is lost I'm afraid. I feel a lot Captain von Trapp in the Sound of Music these days as he watched helplessly the Austria he knew and loved so much become part of the Third Reich. But at least he could go to Switzerland. Where can we go to escape this madness?

It would certainly be better than what we have now.

I agree. You shouldn’t get a vote unless you have paid at least $1 in income taxes. I have never understood that, but our founding fathers did. They knew we could keep the republic only as long as people didn’t figure out that they could vote themselves money/benefits from the national treasure. Voila! Now we have the great unwashed liberal drones voting in a block to “get mine”

Sticks and stones. I don’t care what they call me. All I know is that a limited government republic is vastly superior to an unlimited government democracy.

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. I simply tried abbrev. “Speaker of the house”.

But hey — Lord Soth might be an improvement on the current POS.

(Oh, that stands for piece of....)

I think BHO is much more of a socialist than he is a fascist. Fascism has a strong nationalist component. BHO HATES America.

Robert A. Heinlein had a good idea. Only Honorably discharged veterans may vote. I’m all for that. Here’s my DD214, sign me up.

Excellent. To the point. And said in a hell of lot less words than I used to express this very point.

Repeal Amendment IX and raise the voting age to 30, to make it closer to what 21 used to represent.

Bring back the poll tax and literacy test. . .heck, I’d be happy if they just limited voting to US citizens.

"...If it were up to me, I’d limit voting to net taxpayers only...."

Brilliant in it's simplicity!

If you do not have the wherewithal to take care of yourself, you cannot be allowed to ruin society for those that CAN take care of themselves.

That depends on whether you’re a taxpayer or a prole.
Proles claim they are exploited and oppressed (and it really happens, too). So they demand and are extended rights like the vote to protect some basic human rights.
Sooner or later (mostly sooner) they decide that a decent (and subsidized) standard living, regardless of their income, is a basic right and start voting themselves money from the public trough.

Politicians are interested in keeping their job and accumulating power. It is in their best interests to buy the proles’ votes (its not THEIR money) and convince everybody else that its only the right thing to do to subsidize them. They also accumulate power through the taxes and programs that provide for these “less fortunate” people.

So, they round up votes by promising things to the proles; they gather up power by creating programs and raising taxes to subsidize the proles.

People don’t seem to realize that we’ve reached this state, because this is what the politicians WANT. They have secure jobs and immense power.

And they will never, ever, give anything up, while they are still breathing.

I don’t know about that one. I’ve talked to too many veterans who believe in stuff like Compulsory National Volenteer Service.

I still think voting should be limited to married men with children, who are married to the mother of their children.

I don’t have a problem with anyone voting, but they need to be either property owners or self sufficient (not on government assistance). If they have nothing to lose and everything to gain, they will go with the candidates who promises the most to the voters. This has nothing with race or sex. I am real tired of the slugs of this country voting for jackasses who tax me to give my hard earned money to idiots who refuse to work. If I were king there would be some changes made. I agree w/ that wholeheartedly. But I’ve been criticized for having the opinion that anyone on the dole be subjected to mandatory drug testing. Apparently, not a popular suggestion.

I hear you. I live in California. Would you believe that here in this wacky state with all of the illegal aliens we have here, they don’t even bother to ask you for ID when you go to vote. Isn’t that simply insane?

“Lord Soth might be an improvement on the current POS.”

Speaker of the House makes sense, but if she’s on your list, shouldn’t voters also know who the Senate Majority Leader is?

Isn’t a federal election when you vote for individuals running for federal office—president, U.S. Senators, and U.S. House of Represenatives?

No. Did your State have hanging chads?

USC Art I Section. 4. The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.

That was supposed to be "Repeal Amendment XIX..."
