Can someone … anyone … explain how it is possible for a woman who is breast-feeding while intoxicated to be arrested while a pregnant woman who drinks goes free?

I am fed up with society’s hypocrisy when it comes to children, babies, or fetuses. There is no logical argument for there being a difference between a 7, 8, 9 month pregnant woman drinking, and a woman breast-feeding while drunk.

This constant struggle to simply try and figure out what is/is not a baby and what is/is not abuse and neglect will have to come to a head sooner or later.

I dont know if I was drunk legally, but I was breast feeding my babies, and I would drink beer, as it was a fast way to produce more milk, all women are not good producers, but breast feed their children..

Breast milk probably has no more alcohol than the mother’s blood, so 0.2%, say? A drink like that wouldn’t even count as alcoholic. Granted, babies are heavy drinkers.

Biggest danger is dropping the baby on its head, not getting it drunk.

A wonderful nurse told me to ‘have a beer or two’ when starting to actually produce milk (the letdown from colustrum to milk can be painful). It did work...and no...not a drunk mommy here either. Just a little more mellow :)

But personally I am of the opinion that neither should be arrested. What are the grounds for arrest?

One could suggest child endangerment in the case of the breast feeding woman but could not in the case of the pregnant woman because in the eyes of the law no child exists.

But in my opinion the suggestion of child endangerment for the breast fed child is nebulous in the extreme.

Unless the breast feeding woman is drunk to the point of passing out the immediate danger to the child is negligible.

My opinion is that if Family of such a woman feel that the mother of such a child is doing this habitually to the point that the child faces immediate danger then the court can find just cause to action but a single instance would not be. The crux of my line of logic is that there must be familial first action prior to court action.

The writer needs some work. You shouldn't arrest anyone while drunk. When an officer becomes intoxicated he should lose his powers of arrest and detention.
