The other day I was driving behind a car with a Friend of Tibet Virginia license plate. Thats great and Id like to be a Friend myself, but with the job and the family and cutting the lawn Can I just become a Facebook Friend of Tibet? If so, am I entitled to the same preening as Tibets actual Friends?
It got me wondering whether wed see Free Iran paraphernalia anytime soon, and whether wed see it on the same Volvos and Priuses as those Free Tibet bumper stickers. Somehow I doubt it, since Obama could barely fit any concern for Iran among the puffs of hope and billows of change. If he doesnt care, the media doesnt care, and the bumper sticker-industrial complex can concentrate on that cuddly Dalai Lama.
Not that freeing Tibet isnt desirable. It should be free. In fact, we should also help free China (and Cuba and North Korea, while were at it), and make sure that Taiwan remains free. You dont see many bumper stickers about those countries, though. And small wonder if they really expected anyone to care about their plight, they would have had the foresight to stock up on skinny bald guys in saffron robes.
But thats the great thing about bumper sticker morality its uncomplicated. You can register your concern for countries with mind-expanding Eastern philosophies, and ignore more icky places and issues. The same is true with the really big stuff. When the driver in front of you commands you to visualize world peace while youre sitting in traffic, hed rather you didnt contemplate the holocausts, world wars and bloody subjugation necessary to achieve it.

As far as I’m concerned, all bumper stickers carry the same message, which is “Idiot on Board”.
Hey! Mine’s “NObama”.
Visualize World Police
Loved this article.
“My Bumper Sticker is Smarter Than Yours”.
Saw my first Impeach Obama bumper sticker today in Olney, MD (of all places). I wanted to give the driver a big thumbs up, but he was going too fast. Hope I see more.
That’s PRICELESS! “Visualize World Police” HAR
the one I have in my head now is “Visualize Dead Traitors”, with a democrat logo on it, which replaces the last oldie-but-goodie “It’s Time To Vote With A Bullet”.
DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC |
Some people have entirely too much time.
My favorite bumper sticker is “Ignore all Bumper Stickers”
“Horn broke, watch for finger”
I want to add one under it:
I wish I could find the 1 I saw advertized years ago (I think it was some rare conservative catalog - before Internet). It had 1 of those stylized silhouettes of a militarized guy with his automatic and face bandana.
Anyway, I find it much better than “Whirled Peas”. Drives home the point.
