News is out tonight that long-time CBS News Anchorman Walter Cronkite has died at the age of 92 . . . . Cronkite was the news for several generations of Americans. It was a five-night a week tradition at my house to sit down and watch the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. In his later years, Cronkite revealed a very strong liberal bent, far more so than was obvious in his newscasts, although he certainly leaned toward the Democrats. But his face and voice will always be synonymous with the news. Below is video of one of his most famous moments, when he announced the death of President John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963 . . . (Watch Video of Cronkite)

Good grief, you would almost think he was Michael Jackson.

Good riddance to the lying SOB!! I hope he is turning a nice crispy black in h%ll as I type this!!

He is single-handedly responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of young men, both American and Vietnamese, PLUS the deaths of innocent Vietnamese civilians who were unfortunately caught in the cross-fire.

I hope his sorry carcass rots for the next thousand years and he has to live with the stench of his own body.

“Most trusted man in America”!!?? I spit on his lies and only regret that I’ll never get the chance to dance on his grave!!

Yes, he was a liberal in his personal beliefs but with few exceptions, he adhered to a standard of journalism that has been lost. Everyone has personal beliefs, it’s whether they allow them to affect the way they do their job that counts.

Allow me to educate you, my FRiend. "Uncle Walter" came on the air one evening and declared that the American troops in Vietnam suffered a crushing defeat in the Tet Offensive.

The only problem was, he was lying and he knew it. Decades later, in the autobiography of one of the North Vietnamese generals did we learn that not only was the Tet Offensive NOT a defeat for the American troops, it was such a resounding victory for them that the North Vietnamese were on the verge of capitulating. Until, that is, they saw "Uncle Walter's" news reports. The report demoralized American troops and energized our enemies.

Your "Uncle Walter" is single-handedly responsible for the deaths of thousands of young American and Vietnamese troops as well as the innocent civilians who were caught in the crossfire between them. Had he reported the truth, the Vietnam War would have ended years earlier and there wouldn't be anywhere nearly as many names incribed on the Vietnam War Memorial Wall.

Still want to see the lying SOB back on the air?? He provided the model they all use today!!

In 1968, Cronkite single-handedly turned the Tet offensive victory into a US loss in the eyes of the American public. Walter Cronkite, America’s most respected journalist at that time, suggested that America wasn’t winning the war. It was inaccurate, but no matter, it created the first significant crack in President Johnson’s belief that he could win both the war and re-election.

He was a socialist stooge and bigtime supporter of world government. He received an award from the World Federalist Association for supporting globalism.

Good riddance.

BFD, as far as I’m concerned. May God have merct on his poor deceived soul (and of those others he misled with his slanted views of reality).

Prayers to the families of all the Marines and soldiers who died needlessly in Vietnam after sick Soviet dupe Cronkite declared the war a lost cause and made sure to tell his American audience exactly that every night.

Don’t jump down my throat when people are kicking dirt on the casket before the body is even cold.

Cronkite was elected to nothing - if he affected lives hard luck but so did thousands of others in all walks of life. I have no great love for him or his ideology but the lynch mob mentality is beneath FR and anyone else with a modicum of decency.

It has nothing to do with being a lynch mob. Cronkite played a major role in the US leaving Vietnam with his phony reporting, especially about the Tet Offensive, which was a victory for us, not for the VC and the NVA. Moreover, the abandonment of South Vietnam to the communists caused many deaths, the forcing of others into reeducation camps, and tens of thousands of refugees, including the boat people.

Uncle Walter was trusted by most of the American people, which is why his influence was so insidious and dangerous. He certainly had more to do with the outcome in Vietnam than did Jane Fonda.

I prefer the British description of "Newsreaders" for the Cronkite types. Cronkite spawned the celebrity journalist genre who are more famous than the people they cover and certainly better paid than most of them. They are arrogant and partisan despite the protestations to the contrary.

I am 66 years old. I know who Cronkite really was, not the idealized and lionized version now being trotted out by the MSM. This idea that we cannot talk ill of the dead is just pure nonsense.

Since yours is the most civil post I’ve seen on this thread, I’ll reply to you.

“Goodnight, Chet.” “Goodnight, David.” “Goodnight, Walter.”
And that’s the way it was at our house. Depending on where we lived and what channels we had.

“When Teddy Kennedy kicks the bucket, will you say the same thing?”

There is a special place in Hell for Ted Kennedy. Even now, Lucifer is stoking the coals to get them nice and comfortable for ole’ “Chappaquiddick Ted”, who will be coming along shortly. I am sure Mary Jo Kopechne will encourage Ted to walk away from the light, and will be more than happy to throw a few extra coals on the Barbie for him.

Agreed. I get sick of how everybody suddenly becomes a freaking saint when they pass, no matter what a POS they were in life. Even though I feel bad for his family, I’m glad this old fart is gone and I only wish it had happened sometime before the Vietnam War. He helped kick off a sad trend where newpeople decided to make the tv medium a soapbox for their views instead of simply reporting the facts as accurately as possible. Although I am generally conservative, I am tired of those in the media, both left and right, forcefeeding me what they think I ought to believe. I’m intelligent. Simply give me the facts and I’ll form my own opinions on issues. I’m personally glad this old commie, internationalist traitor is dead. Good riddance. Walter was no uncle of mine.
