Ask National Review to correct the factual errors in their "Birthers" editorial
24AheadDotCom ^ | 7/29/09 | self

Posted on 07/29/2009 2:17:19 PM PDT by lonewacko_dot_com

As discussed here, the recent National Review editorial "Born in the U.S.A." (read it here) contains at least three false statements. I've twice contacted NRO asking them to correct those false statements, and I haven't received a reply. So, please use the email addresses given at the end of this post to send them brief and polite emails focused only on the false statements discussed below.

The errors I found (there might be others) occur in this part of the editorial:

The Hawaiian birth certificate President Obama has produced - the document is formally known as a "certificate of live birth" - bears that information. It has been inspected by reporters, and several state officials have confirmed that the information in permanent state records is identical to that on the president’s birth certificate - which is precisely what one expects, of course, since the state records are used to generate those documents when they are requested. In other words, what President Obama has produced is the “real” birth certificate of myth and lore. The director of Hawaii’s health department and the registrar of records each has personally verified that the information on Obama’s birth certificate is identical to that in the state’s records, the so-called vault copy.

1. The statement "several state officials have confirmed that the information in permanent state records is identical to that on the president’s birth certificate" is false. No Hawaiian official has ever said that. Read the actual statements from 10/31/2008 and 7/27/09, and compare that to the National Review's lie. In neither statement do they say anything about the picture on Obama's site. Further, aside from a statement from a DOH spokeswoman that she won't confirm, no other statements from the Hawaiian government confirmed anything relating to this issue. The last sentence in the National Review's quote is false for the same reasons. Those aren't just minor points: if NRO doesn't even understand what those earlier statement actually contain but is instead going off distorted AP summaries, can their opinion be trusted?

2. The document has not been inspected "by reporters". The only people outside the Obama camp who claim to have seen a paper copy are FactCheck. As discussed at that link, they aren't exactly a credible source. They also aren't document experts, nor did they call in document experts. Per their page [1], those who they claim saw the document were their "representatives" and "staffers", not reporters. And, their pictures were later silently recompressed and edited to remove camera data that had a date months earlier than the pictures were supposedly taken.

3. National Reviews wants to deal with this "formally", but they can't even read what it says on the picture on Obama's site. The document in question isn't a "certificate of live birth" as they state, it's a "certification of live birth". To some that might be a small difference, but when dealing with legal issues seemingly minor issues can be very major.

Please send brief, polite emails that focus only on the lies discussed above or other lies in the editorial to one or more of the following: comments.lowry *at* nationalreview.com, JonahNRO *at* gmail.com, and klopez *at* nationalreview.com

Please only focus on the issues raised in this post. For extra credit, find bloggers who've discussed the NRO editorial and let them know about this post.

I read it last night online. I emailed them to thank them for putting the controversy to rest.
Since they have cleared up the matter I asked them to please forward me the hospital and the attending doctor for the birth so I can spread the word the controversy is over.

They haven't replied yet.

Obamas grandmother got his certs. He was not born in Hawaii. His sister 100% born in Indonesia has one just like it. You do not have to be born in Hawaii to have a colb. To qualify for Hawaiian Homelands program you have to be Hawaiian. The State will not accept the colb as proof of Hawaiian birth.

Hawaiian Home Lands is a program for indigenous Hawaiians. You need to prove that you have ethnic Hawaiian ancestry, not that you were born in Hawaii. That's why a COLB is irrelevant to that program.

I haven't seen a copy of the sister's COLB; do you have a link to it?

Obami says he was born in a hospital in Hawaii. If that's the case, then there will be a doctors signature on the long form document. If there is no signature then Obamis whole story is a lie. Fellow FReepers, that's the word that we have to keep using and emphasizing: signature. Not only is it an unambiguous word that cannot be twisted by the media, but it will help us keep our focus on what the real issue is: THE SIGNATURE.

Just an observation... Obama is going down the toilet. He can read from a teleprompter, but he is not a leader in any sense of the word. His Marxist agenda is bad for the economy, health care, or the country's defense. Whenever he gets off the teleprompter he makes a huge mess, such as with him bumbling into the arrest of his fellow black/irish Marxist buddy Professor Gates vs Sgt. Crowly of the Cambridge Police Department. People are getting fed up with Obama.

It seemed so unlikely just a month or two ago but... I think the fact that he has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to keep his long form birth certificate out of the hands of the public is the issue that is going to pull the flush handle on this idiot. The reason is that it is so simple to comprehend.

At work I was recently confronted with Ozombies having fits about how this whole thing is a pile of crap. The conversations went something similar to this:

I asked them, “Have you ever seen your own birth certificate?” They answered, “Yes.”

Then I asked, “Does it have the name of the doctor who delivered you on it?” They answered, “Yes.” I asked, “Does it have the name of the hospital where you were born?” They answered, “Well yes.”

“Why doesn't the one Obama released have this information on it?” They said, “It does! It's been verified by the state of Hawaii!” I said, “No it doesn't, you go look it up. He didn't release his birth certificate, he released a certification of live birth that does not have that info on it.”

I then asked, “Would you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep your birth certificate from being seen in a court of law?” They said, “Well no why would I do that?” I said, “Well that is what Obama has done.” They said, “That is a lie. There is no reason for him to do that. You won't be happy with anything he could release.”

I said, “No, I just want him to release the document that shows the doctor who delivered him and name of the hospital where he was born. He hasn't done that. You go look it up.” Of course the idiot wouldn't concede because he is an idiot, but several others who witnessed us sparring joined in and said they couldn't believe Obama would spend that much money hiding his birth certificate and wondered why. They became converts immediately. This thing resonates! Anyone with any sense knows that there is something going on.

It was on another thread and I heard about it on Quinn and Rose. I had heard before that he has a half sister by his step-father Sotero. I wonder if there is an announcement in the Honolulu paper about her. This guy is as shady as they come and nobody knows for sure about anything in his past. I think he is a Communist operative indoctrinated as a kid by Frank Marshall Davis. A Communist “recruiter” and organizer. It is the only way any of this makes any sense. His dad was a Communist..His Mom and grandparents..His associates...Logic dictates. I think his Grandmother set it up.

Nice canard there, ace. So the hospital, the address at birth, the doc’s name help verify HI ancestry?

They asked for the ORIGINAL BC because they know what we all know. The information on a COLB does not necessarily reflect the info at birth.

What? I'm not sure what you mean. I'm saying that the birth certificate (and COLB) don't confirm Hawaiian ancestry, which is why the program set up to track that and dole out benefits to those of Hawaiian descent needs different documentation. I'm saying that the fact that Hawaiian Home Lands doesn't accept a COLB has nothing to do with whether Obama is a legitimate citizen, and whether a COLB is an acceptable proof of citizenship and Hawaiian birth.

OK, see, this is why the birther movement is doomed to fail.

I’m with Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly, Michelle Malkin, and a whole bunch of others who say that while Obama is a lousy president, he WAS born in Hawaii, and he IS eligible to be president.

From the Dems’ point of view, there are two very good reasons for not releasing either the birth certificate or the attending doctor. Remember what happened with the truthers after 9/11? Anyone and everyone whose name was connected with those planes was hounded by the truther idiots. A lady took a picture of smoke rising from the Flight 93 crash site. She got crazy and threatening emails and letters. Untold numbers of engineers weighed in on how there were no explosives planted. They STILL get threatened. And now you want to release the names of any doctors or midwifes or secretaries or anyone else connected with this? Can you IMAGINE the crap they’re going to go through? It’s not like the birth certificate is going to be released, and then Orly Taitz and everyone else associated with the movement is going to examine it and go “Oh well, there you go. You were right and we were wrong. Sorry about that. Let’s move on to health care.” This movement has gone wayyyy too far for that to happen. It’ll never end. Birthers are about one step away from being like the truthers. If that certificate ever gets released, they’ll take that last step right into “Holographic Planes Pretending to Crash into the Towers” territory. Everyone who is remotely associated with that piece of paper will suddenly be made to feel very uncomfortable, and I for one do NOT want to see it released.

The second reason is political. Think about it: Why SHOULD Obama want to release his birth certificate. The way it is now, he can’t lose. Not only is every question asked about the birth certificate not one asked about pertinent issues such as socialized medicine, his military strategy (or lack thereof), or the economy, but the more the birther movement grows, the more nuts the conservatives appear, because we don’t seem to want to distance ourselves from this movement, let alone know how to do it. All Obama and his camp have to do is just let this mad merry-go-round spin out of control, and we are fulfilling his desire very well.

I mean, when I look at the Youtube video of Miss Screamy McSkrewzaloose yelling at Senator Whoever and hijacking the microphone to lead the Pledge of Allegiance along with her freaky little friends, it turns me off. It turns a lot of other conservatives off too, and if you think the dems aren’t going to be helped by this ranting and raving, you are sadly mistaken.

Birthers. I’m talking to all of you. OK? Let it go. Let it alll go. Get the Russian bear to dance on her ball somewhere else. If you’re in the military, follow your lawful orders. Mutiny is NEVER a good campaign strategy. Obama won and we lost. Rather than rend our clothes and cry to our god, maybe we should be thinking about WHY this inexperienced socialist managed to beat us. Don’t think about the past, certainly not all the way back to 1961. You won’t get anywhere unless you want a cabinet position in Obama’s administration in 2012. Think ahead and grow up.

__________

Read my post. He gains much more from not proving it. Once he proves it, he can’t use the birthers against themselves anymore. It would be like having a full house aces high and just showing it to the other players before you start raising them and calling their bluff.

Reality says otherwise. The latest Dim talking point.

You'll find it's not going to help him any or the rest of the Dims for him to hide his state senate records to his birth certificate. It's just another issue contentious issue that will help bring him down to lame duck status in less than a year. And Obama may not survive politically his 4 year term. His poll numbers are cratering as well as the Demwits who run Congress. Yes, please Obama drag it out...it's another distraction that will bring you down.
