Okay, this is an intriguing new frontier in political media criticism. Media Matters, which has been attacking CNN for not reining in Lou Dobbs’ birther obsession, has now purchased air time to run a TV ad attacking “CNN’s Lou Dobbs problem” — during Dobbs’ show!

A Media Matters spokesman tells me the group has bought a week of ad time on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News in D.C., New York, and Atlanta, beginning Tuesday. The catch: Media Matters has specifically purchased time to air the ad during Dobbs’ show — putting CNN in the position of either running the spot or nixing it and making this a bigger story.

I agree with your concerns about McRae. However, the Kenyan National Assembly on Nov 5, 2008, the day after Obama was elected Over and over again made references to Obama being a "son of the soil" of Kenya and a Kenyan.

Here is the problem with fighthesmears narrative: We already have recorded that Obama's wife michellle said Obama's mother was "very young and very single" when obama was born. British law at the time of obama's birth only gave citizenship from the father to the son in the case that the father is married to the mother:ie the son is legitimate. See wikipedia 2.4.3Since obama's parents were NOT married -- how did obama get his British/Kenyancitizenship? Its not unreasonable to think that he got his British/Kenyan because he was born there--and not because of his parentage. As to the famous newsclipping in Hawaii that states that bama was born there in 1961--there is evidence to suggest that the house named as the place where Obama was born -- was lived in by someone else besides his parents. Once again, Just one piece of evidence could easily be dismissed. It is the accumulation of evidence that is troubling.
It is well established that Obama did travel to Indonesia and Pakistan in 1981. In a tape of his speech at this April 6, 2008 San Francisco Fundraiser, Obama discloses his trip to Pakistan (40:17) when he was in college. On what passport did he travel?

A last arguement for baraks people might be that of course the Kenyans would have an interest in claiming that obama was a "son of the soil" both as a matter of pride and as a matter of bucks coming their way. However, if Obama was not born in Kenya -- then why wouldn't Obama release his original long form birth certificate. Instead of just releasing his long form birth certificate he has paid his lawyers 1 million dollars from campaign contributions since Sept 08 to squash the suits brought on the issue. On top of that according to the LA Times since the election -- the Kenyans feel that Obama has gone out of his way to snub/ignore/distance-himself them. The Kenyans are putting up reasons like perhaps they are insufficiently perfected for him to notice them--but here in the USA we have seen Obama throw a number of embarrasing people from his past under the bus. Obama is going to Africa. Will he visit Kenya? Nope.

This is like the two hospitals thing. O's people aren't on the same page on this. Or they weren't working off the same story. Even in a tighly run campaign there are people who act off what they personally think they know, not the story the candidate wants to put out.

His wife assumed that her husband's parents weren't legally married, and the website started out from the assumption that they were and he got Kenyan/British citizenship/subjecthood from his father. I don't think you can just combine the two claims and arrive at something by process of elimination or deduction, because the person who put the website together may not even have known about the rumor that O's parents weren't married.

I'd put my money on Michelle having more of the real story. In his memoir, Obama mentions something about not inquiring too deeply into his parents' marriage for fear of finding out that his parents were never really legally married. I suspect he found out that they weren't (though if true, we'd have to figure out what to do about the divorce papers). I suspect that's one reason why O won't release his long form birth certificate. The other may be that his race is given as "White (Caucasian). But I don't have any evidence for that last conjecture.

the number of anomolies is immense. for example, last summer the crucial piece of evidence that obama was born in hawaii was a newspaper clipping that came out in july.

Its since come out that every piece of information on the clipping wasn’t true. The clipping says mr & mrs but there is no evidence that the two were married at the time — quite the contrary. the article name an address where someone else lived. there is a record for O’s father’s address—but it is elsewhere. the name of the hospital is different from the hospital named in many previous accounts. the only surviving neighbor of the residence mentioned in the newspaper clipping says there were no mixed race couples at the address next door at the time. the birth record number on obama’s short form birth certificate actually comes before the the birth record number on the baby named in the article as having been born before Obama.

there is no marriage certifate and no record of o’s parents ever actually having lived together. In dreams of my father pg 81 obama’s mother mentions the period of Obama’s birth and never actually says she was married to O’s father at the time.
