Salon's handy-dandy guide to refuting the Birthers

Your Uncle Floyd will forward you a chain e-mail that says Obama was actually born in Kenya and there's a Kenyan birth certificate that proves it and hundreds of government officials and reporters are in on a conspiracy to hide the truth of his ineligibility for the presidency from the public. And you will wonder: How can I possibly deal with all the falsehoods in this e-mail without disappearing down a rabbit hole?

Well, wonder no more. In the spirit of public service, Salon has compiled this list of the most popular Birther myths, along with all the debunking you could ever ask for. Now you can just e-mail this list to Uncle Floyd and get on with your life."

For those of us who have studied this issue closely and objectively, I wonder how many falsehoods you can spot in this article?

For instance, in the first example, Koppelman implies Hawaiian Health officials have authenticated the document posted on the website "Fight-the-Smears" as an authentic Hawaiian COLB. To my knowledge, there has been no such authentication.

As you read down the list, I think it's always a good idea to get our facts in order on the various issues raised in this article, so we don't wonder too far from the "prima facie" facts.

But let's assume, for the sake of argument, that Obama could get the original paper document out of its undisclosed Hawaiian location and show it to reporters. Shouldn't he? Maybe not. He's already released a completely legal form of proof of his birthplace; to cave in to the Birthers' demands now would legitimize them. It would also likely lead to a wave of stories asking why the change in stance had happened, and what had taken so long.

Really lame rationale. Obama has no problem legitimizing every thug dictator out there, but President Transparency can't disclose his birth certificate to American citizens. What a crook! Besides, there is important historical information on the actual birth certificate that is not on the certification such as the hospital and doctor. The left has not come up with one legitimate reason why this hasn't happened.

Being a birther now means you’re a respecter of the Constitution, nothing more, nothing less. Obama refused to release his long form birth control, and the hounds of the press are guarding his coffin, so he’s hiding something. The facts are known to us and the enemies of the Constitution. I won’t have egg on my face if Obama releases his actual birth certificate and we birthers are wrong, we’ll just have exercised our rights as citizens and move on.

IOWs it is a very legitimate and compelling question to ask why 0bama is hiding his records. Even a near idiot would wonder why he did that if there is nothing seriously damaging about them.

So Salon stands by the reason “spite” as justification for not releasing the original birth certificate.

The only reason I have seen stated, it because he can. He is either an arrogant bastard or has something to hide or most likely both. The certification of live birth seems to be sufficient for most courts. But I want to see the original source documentation. I still question why the birth announcements in the paper list an address they never lived. Looks like the actual birth certificate had some fishy information on it to say the least.
