Confessions of a Redneck
Charlie Daniels Soapbox ^ | summer 2009 | Charlie Daniels

Did you ever notice that when liberals start criticizing conservatives, they start out by telling us how intellectually inferior we are?

Have you noticed how angry it makes them that anybody, as intellectually lacking as we are should have the audacity to question them and their superior intellect? They know what's good for us lesser beings and that if we weren't such a bunch of uncultured rednecks, we would see the error of our ways, we would just drive our pickup trucks, drink our beer, clean our guns and leave the weightier things like governing to them.

It's called arrogance folks, it's called condescension, and it is pervasive in the Obama Administration. They are bound and determined that they are going to have their way whether "We The People" want it or not.

Let me say at the outset of this statement that I very much believe in education, but what is happening in the universities of this nation these days has more to do with indoctrination than it does with education.

Just because somebody has a college degree doesn't mean he or she has any practical sense. They could well be what Ronnie Van Zant used to call an "educated fool".

The limits of my educational credentials would be a 12th grade diploma and I was lucky to get that. By the time I got into high school I was a lot more interested in fiddles and guitars than I was in diagramming a sentence or what some long dead poet had to say.

But for the past several decades through the blessings and grace of Almighty God, I have kept at least twenty-five people gainfully and steadily employed. We have a health insurance program and a 401k plan for our employees.

We have never missed a payday and I have watched many of my people literally grow up, get married, buy homes, have and educate children and in a few cases some of them have grandchildren.

They abide by the law, they pay their taxes, they support their families, and are good citizens.

As for me I am an unabashed Christian and claim no political party affiliation, I believe in voting for the person, not the party.

I own guns and defend my right to do so.

I don't think what I weigh is anybody's business but my own and if I'm overweight that's my problem, not the government's.

I don't believe in manmade global warming and happen to think that the people who think cow flatulence is going to destroy the planet should check in at the nut house.

I don't think it's any of anybody's business what kind of car I drive or how much mileage it gets as long as I don't ask you to help fill the gas tank.

And if you want to drive some electric pregnant roller skate that will go all of a hundred miles before it has to be recharged, it's none of my business.

I believe that the schools of this nation should first be committed to teaching the three "R's", reading, writing and arithmetic, as the kids are who are coming out of these schools are sorely lacking in them.

I believe that the history of this country, and this world for that matter, should be taught as it truly was and not some agenda driven revisionist's version.

I believe that the United States of America should be a sovereign nation and that our affiliation in the United Nations is a farce. The U.N., though a noble idea in theory, has turned into a toothless debating society with all the cards stacked against the U.S.

I believe that we should stick with our friends and acknowledge our enemies. As in Israel is a friend; Iran is an enemy.

I believe in charity but I don't believe in entitlements paid to people who are able to work for a living.

I don't believe in a big central government as I don't believe there are that many totally trustworthy people available to run it and not be seduced by the power.

I believe that true marriage can only exist between a man and a woman and I need no other authority than the Holy Bible to prove that I'm right.

I believe that with a few notable exceptions, the Congress of the United States has turned into a body of political prostitutes who sell their integrity and their honor to get more and more power over the people they are sworn to serve.

I have no faith whatsoever that the financial programs the President and Congress have passed will do anything to pull America out of this slump we are experiencing and I believe that the national debt we are acquiring will be a two thousand pound albatross around America's neck for generations to come.

I believe we are headed for inflation like we've never seen it before.

I believe that as things deteriorate Obama and the Congress will become more and more desperate and try to introduce even more dangerous measures. It is just my hope that by that time the American people will wake up to the point to say enough is enough and elect some fiscally responsible people.

I don't believe there can be any such thing as a "jobless recovery" and actually think the two words are a contradiction in terms.

I believe that the proposed health care program is not about health care but just another blatant "hurry up" attempt to gain more control by a president who sees his poll numbers sinking.

I believe that if the government had announced an across the board tax cut for individuals and businesses for the period of one year that this recession would be all but over by now.

That would have worked in a couple of ways. First of all, the government would only have had to borrow the money to sustain itself during the tax hiatus and they wouldn't have had to go to foreign countries to sell treasury bonds, the people of this country would have bought them.

The economy of America would have started rebounding the next time workers received a paycheck and the resulting domino effect would have taken off like a freight train.

I believe that when America does come out of this slump it will be in spite of the government actions, not because of it.

And a few personal notes to you liberals who are kind enough to slum your way through our humble little column…

I do own a pickup truck, occasionally chew tobacco, love NASCAR and football games, guns and large mouth bass fishing.

I love rednecks and if I was in a pinch I'd rather have one good honest redneck on my side that a whole gaggle of college professors.

What do you think?

Pray for our troops, and for our country

God Bless America

If they would go 100 miles, it would be a HUGE technological breakthrough. Most will barely get 40 miles before a recharge is necessary.

Most will barely get 40 miles before a recharge is necessary.

This will save little if any fuel as much of the electricity used for a recharge is produced by diesel powered generators.

More useful knowledge here than one hears or reads from any of the arrogant, pseudo-intellectual babblers who only provide a window to their own vast ignorance whenever they speak or write their scathing criticisms of ordinary Americans who read their Bibles, their Declaration of Independence, their Constitution, and then decide for themselves (as Charlie does) that they prefer liberty to slavery to government.

There! Just one long sentence can sum it all up!

Tocqueville wrote of just the kind of citizen Daniels is when he visited America in the 1830's and observed that there was more intellectual activity in backwoods America than existed "in the most enlightened and populous districts of France."

Well, diesel generators tend to be used only in areas where railroads cannot bring in coal, such as islands. Using coal fired power plants to recharge your car doesn’t save on CO2 emissions at all.

I understand the point you are making but it still gives credence to the lie.

You Go Mr D!

Obama went down to Georgia, he was looking for a legacy to steal.
He was in a bind ‘cos Health Care was way behind: he was willin’ to make a deal.
When he came across Mr. Daniels sawin’ on a fiddle and playin’ it hot.
And Obama jumped upon a hickory stump and said: “Old man let me tell you what:
“I bet you didn’t know it, but I fiddle around too.
“And if you’d care to take a dare, I’ll make a bet with you.
“Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the President his due:
“I bet a teleprompter of gold against your soul, ‘cos I think Health Care is gonna go through.”
And Mr D said: “My name’s Charley and it might be a sin,
“But I’ll take your bet, your gonna regret, ‘cos we rednecks got a lot of kin

Charley you pick up your pen and write your op ed hard.
‘Cos hells broke loose in DC and the devil deals it hard.
And if you win you you might save the taxpayer’s gold.
But if you lose, the devil gets America’s soul.

The devil stated his case and he said: “I’ll start this show.”
And fire flew from his lips as his handlers cranked up the back glow
And as he started to move his lips, we heard an evil hiss.
Then a band of Democrats joined in and it sounded something like this.
When the devil finished, Charley said: “Well you’re pretty good ol’ son.
“But if you’ll sit down in that chair, right there, and let me show you how its done.”

We have never missed a payday
An we abide by the law,
As for me I am an unabashed
I own guns and defend my right to do so.
I don’t think what I weigh is anybody’s business but my own
and if I’m overweight that’s my problem, and not none of yours

Fire on the mountain, run boys, run.
The devil’s in the White House of the risin’ sun.
Taking yer bed pan, Medicaids out of dough.
“Granny, your times up!”
“No, child, no.”

Obama bowed his head because he knew that he’d been beat.
He laid that golden teleprompter on the ground at Charley’s feet.
Charley said: “Obama just come on back if you ever want to try again.
“I told you once, you son of a bitch, I’m the best that’s ever been.”

Very little electrical power in the US is generated by diesel generators.

Sometimes I think about getting an electric car just so I could drive around with a “coal powered” bumper sticker.
